You may or may not have noticed that the last few weeks have been hectic in the Newschoolers offices i.e wherever we happen to be at the time. @Twig was on a North American road trip of a lifetime (article to come). Myself, @P3t3r and @curt_ went to Revelstoke for a not-so-relaxing getaway and we took over Sunshine Village for a week to test out a pile (quite literally) of skis hot of the presses for the 23/24 season.

Nestled in the midst of the madness was a weekend like no other, an event that stood out to everyone who attended or watched through FOMO-riddled Instagram vision. The brainchild of NS’s own Curt Hiller, the Pro Bowl Riding (PBR) Session.

Sunshine Village is known for their willingness to bring visions to life - look at snowboarding’s (don’t hate me) Holy Bowly, Tales From The Village and It’s Tits - as well as being Newschoolers’ unofficial home.

For its third iteration, PBR and the epic @ShredSSV park crew (shoutout @Brockmarzolf ), left no stone unturned in creating the biggest and best park yet, with hidden gaps, creative lines and some seriously gnarly rails.

Stacked crews descended on SSV for a three-day shred fest like no other. Famous faces like Ian Hamilton, Kyle Coxworth and Jacob Belanger showed us how it’s done and the local homies kept firing on all cylinders.

With a loose but lit format being the primary focus, skiers rode the park with friends, filmers and fresh faces all weekend. Stacking clips and ticking off tricks. The Swany Best Trick saw a jam format brought to almost every feature in the park where the biggest sends were rewarded with prizing from the sponsors. Riders voted for winners to walk away with the cash and the glory, and the judges chose two MVPs to take home fresh sets of Nordica skis for being the biggest homies across the event.

Men's Winner - Ian Hamilton

Women's Winner - Laura Wotton

Youth Winner - Charlie Hansen

Men's MVP - Lukas Duckworth

Women's MVP - Abbey Lavoilette

In the last year, I’ve been blessed enough to attend a wide scope of events and they always spark something in me. It’s a reminder of the vitality and extensive reach of our sport. I’ve walked away from every one of these with at least one new homie and a bunch of excellent, often very cloudy, memories. PBR was no different, open format, flow-oriented events bring out the best in skiing and more importantly skiers.

I could tell you more about how epic this event was but if you were there you already know and if you missed it you’ll just have to rely on these photos, the recap edit and attending next year to see what all the fuss is about!

Also a big shout out to the sponsors that made this possible: Sunshine Village, Ski West, Swany Gloves, Nordica Skis, 4 West Co, Spy, 686, MTN Division, and Bear Street Outfitter.
