Every season there are many projects that don't quite fit the bill of Film Of The Year because they are a too short to be considered a full-length.
This year the Best Short category was hotly contested. Magma returned with ASH, a Euro adventure of wallrides and cheese wedges. The Magma crew have cleaned up in at the awards recent years, with Hunter Hess winning two best tricks from Magma 1 and Soulstar. He laced yet another backcountry triple this year, ASH was a heater. Hazard Network came out swinging in the streets last year and, for many, Headache is their movie of the year. With a grungy aesthetic and creative spot selection all round. Headache is what it's all about.
Nico Porteous' 'Step One' is a transition master class, his nosebutter dub 12 in the stunt ditch is in the running for TOTY (don't forget to vote!) and we love to see halfpipe skiing portrayed in a new and creative way. We've never seen a nosebutter dub in the pipe and Nico's style in and out of the ditch is inimitable.
The last of our nominees for Best Shot was ON3P 7. Despite some corrupted files this project was insane. The ON3P crew is stacked and their prowess in the streets and wide array of styles made this a hugely entertaining watch. B Mack took home best street segment at iF3 and is up for TOTY for their underflip 4 onto the infamous red ledge.
While each and every one of these projects is deserving of the crown there can, as always, be only one winner. This year, the Suede crew dropped another incredible street project, Exciety Threshold. With two nominations for TOTY (did I mention you can still vote?) and some seriously high-consequence, high-IQ spots Suede have taken the dub this year.
Congrats, you earned it!
