Newschoolers Awards presented by Toyota - The Pro Award Nominees
After much deliberation, we’re proud to announce the nominees for the Newschoolers Awards presented by Toyota. The awards, ski trophies custom made by Gilson Skis, will be handed out at our 20th Anniversary Party at the Copper Grand Hall, taking place on 7th February 2020. Cutting most of these categories down to just five nominees was a nightmare. Choosing the winner will be even tougher for our judging panel, which includes Will Wesson, Tall T Dan, and Steve Stepp. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for our viewers and ladies’ choice awards, for which the nominees will be announced tomorrow. But without further ado, here are the nominees for the judged categories.

Breakthrough of the year - Presented by Gilson Skis
How you define who counts as a breakthrough act is ultimately subjective, but we see them as someone who has taken a step up to the top level in the past year via a movie segment, edit, contest run, or any other medium. Plenty of these guys are well known, but they all had years that elevated them to the next level.

Best Comp Jock
Love them or hate them, competitions are a huge part of the freeski world. We watch and cover all the major events, and there are some guys out there who make the whole process more enjoyable, courtesy of unique style or interesting trick selection. We wanted to recognize the fact that even though they might focus heavily on comps and don’t always come out on top of the podium, their skiing is often the most pleasing to watch and the most inspiring to us.
Nominees:
Ferdinand Dahl
Max Moffat
Alex Hall
Mathilde Gremaud
Alex Beaulieu-Marchand

Crew of the Year
One of the most important parts of skiing is being out on the mountain or in the streets with your friends. Crews have always been the backbone of the freeski content industry and the Newschoolers community. This award goes to the crew that has had the most impressive 2019, judged by their media output, most often a movie, throughout the year.
Nominees:
Line Traveling Circus
Keeshlife
The Bunch
Strictly
Forre

Best Short
Since the beginning, short ski videos have been the blood pumping through the veins of Newschoolers. We variously call them edits, shorts, short films, and other names, and it’s hard to know where exactly to draw the line between the three. But whatever you call them, we couldn’t have an awards ceremony without recognizing perhaps the most important part of ski media in our eyes.
Nominees:
Quinn Wolferman & Ferdinand Dahl - Capeesh?
Alex Hall, Hunter Hess & Owen Dahlberg - Magma

Blue Baller - Best blue name edit
Our “blue name” users upload hundreds of hours of ski content each year and an unbelievable amount of it is seriously good. Their work is sometimes overshadowed by the pros of the industry so this award is to show recognition to the top blue name edit.
Nominees:
TDog - Aapo Myllärinen x Backyard Park
James Pouch - Snapchat Bangers The Movie
Child labor - The Strike
Sam Lobinsky - Reflection
Chef Boyardee - Paradise

Outstanding Video Project of the Year
We are considering all longer video projects that have been posted to Newschoolers as eligible for this award, which essentially comes down to everything except for the few major ski movies that still release on paid platforms.
Nominees:
Nimbus Independent - Drawn From Here
Strictly - Welcome
Keeshlife - Keeshlife Movie 2
Hugo Burvall & BjornEcklund- Phantom Brickworks
Phil Casbon & Brady Perron - Nuance
