In a devastating incident at Mont-Tremblant's resort village, located approximately 105 kilometers northwest of Montreal, one person has been killed, and another is in critical condition following an accident involving a gondola. Provincial police reported that the tragedy occurred on Sunday, shortly before noon when a piece of construction equipment at a construction site struck a sightseeing gondola. The gondola was situated halfway up the mountain between the base and the summit.

The force of the impact caused both individuals to be thrown out of the gondola, resulting in a fall of several meters to the ground. Tragically, one of the occupants succumbed to their injuries and passed away at the hospital, while the other remains in critical condition and has been transferred to a hospital in Montreal.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is currently investigating the incident to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding the collision. Meanwhile, the Tremblant Resort Association expressed deep sorrow and, in a Facebook announcement, canceled the remaining blues music festival activities out of respect for those involved.

Annique Aird, a spokesperson for the resort, emphasized the gravity of the accident and conveyed condolences to the families affected. Aird also assured close collaboration with the SQ during this difficult time. Guests on other gondolas were safely evacuated, and the operation of all gondolas has been temporarily suspended until further notice.

Quebec Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx expressed sadness regarding the incident on Twitter, referring to it as a "sad accident." Proulx confirmed that all relevant authorities are on-site, diligently investigating the matter, and closely monitoring the situation. Notably, this incident marks the first recorded gondola accident on Mont-Tremblant's mountain, amplifying its significance.

A similar gondola crash incident occurred last December at Mont Sainte-Anne near Quebec City, although no injuries were reported at that time. However, the focus here is on the recent tragic event at Mont-Tremblant.
