Short Version:

I designed a clip-on finger guard plate for Look Pivots. Message me to get one of the 50 prototypes for just the shipping cost.

Long Version:

I'm a big fan of Look Pivots, like many others on Newschoolers, and I was pleased to see them recently addressing some user issues with the heel pieces on the 2.0 version, like bigger adjustment range, posi adjustment screw for the DIN and bumpers to limit damage on step out. I don't know what prompted this update after so long. I've joked that the design team has been asleep at the wheel, with only the powder coat guy and the binding norm compliance designer doing any work to push the binding forward.

Some would say "Why fix something that isn't broken?" and I'd largely agree, but having had minor incidents, plenty close calls, and being haunted by the gory images of injuries in this thread: How not to use Look Pivots, While Pivots function so well, there is a clear issue affecting everyone to fix, and that's the ability to painfully trap your finger between the heel dildo and the rail. This set off my designer brain to develop a cover plate to protect your fingers without affecting the binding performance.

It started with masking tape, it then developed into an initial 3D computer model using a friction clip to keep it in place on the rail

Following this came a few rounds of 3d printing, fitting, assessing and then adjusting until I got it to where it is today.

Fitting by tightly clipping to the back of the rail, not affecting how the rail sits on the baseplate, not affecting how the heel actions or rests open and blocking you from having your finger trapped when you're adjusting them.

Before I consider taking the idea further and possibly having a run injection moulded, I need them tested by a bunch of people.

I have enough PETG filament to produce 50 pairs of cover plates. If you're interested in protecting your fingers by trying these out, drop me a message here and we can sort out the details. There's no charge for the plates themselves, but I'd ask for you to cover the cost of shipping, which should just be a few bucks/euros, also no import charges/tariffs.
