BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada – Sunshine Village opened today with another 60cm of fresh snow in the last four days!
The snow continued to fall heavily as skiers and snowboarders enjoyed the great conditions and a base of almost a meter. Five lifts and 47 runs were available, with more expected to open very soon.
“This is some of the best early season snow we’ve seen in 30 years,” said Dan Markham, of Ski Banff-Lake Louise-Sunshine. “It’s a very exciting start to the season.”
And there’s even more reason for excitement this winter, as Sunshine Mountain Lodge, Banff-Lake Louise’s premier ski in-ski out accommodation, opens 30 new eco-luxurious suites as part of a multimillion dollar wing replacement. The main Lodge will open next week and the new suites, featuring ski-to-door convenience, beautiful fireplaces and luxury jetted tubs, will open in early December.
Mt. Norquay and The Lake Louise Ski Area, Banff National Park’s two other ski areas, are already open. Thanks to consistent snowfall all week, Lake Louise is opening the Top of the World chair today, offering access to Home Run, Mirkwood, Grizzly Gully, Grizzly Bowl, Wrong Turn, Tight Turn, Kernahan’s, and Upper Wiwaxy, in addition to the runs already open. Mt. Norquay is currently open for weekends, with full opening scheduled for December 4.
With more snow forecast, it won’t be long until all 8,000 acres of skiable terrain is available in Canada’s Protected Playground, Banff National Park.
