A week of visible unrest in the NFLPA continues to grow more abrasive.
A social-media firestorm erupted on Thursday, starting with Matt Hasselbeck's short-lived tweet directed at Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, which the Seahawks quarterback would soon remove.

"Somebody ask Cromartie if he knows what CBA stands for," Hasselbeck declared via his Twitter account, @Hasselbeck.
The tweet was quickly removed. But not soon enough, it seems, for Cromartie.
"hey Matt if u have something to then say it be a man about it. Don't erase it. I will smash ur face in," Cromartie fired back from @A_Cromartie31.
Cromartie, whose Twitter bio reads "Antonio Cromartie of the New York Jets...husband & father," has become particularly vocal in the month of January. In the week leading up to New York's victory over the hated rival New England Patriots in the divisional round, Cromartie called Tom Brady an "a**hole" in the New York Daily News.
On Monday, Cromartie said NFLPA president DeMaurice Smith was "acting like an a**hole," and that there was some more of that for union leadership as well, after taking issue with Smith's use of war rhetoric in describing the league's troubled labor negotiations.
The former was widely chalked up to gamesmanship, and the latter to a possibly misguided yet noble urge to help avoid a disastrous lockout and retain health care for NFL employees past the March 3 expiration date for the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Hasselbeck's reaction to Cromartie's latest brash call-out hit the Web a mere hour later: "@A_Cromartie31: Sorry for the joke man. No hard feelings. DB's & QB's have a hard time getting along I guess sometimes. Lol"
Both Hasselbeck and Cromartie were set to become free agents this offseason. The NFL's labor team recently informed the media that teams will be allowed to provide the franchise tag in March regardless of negotiations, in a month that will see 495 restricted free agents cut loose without a contract under current guidelines.
