Skis are Burning...Snow Is Falling
It is only mid October here at Silver Star Mountain Resort, but winter has arrived and it's only a matter of time before the lifts are running and skiers are working on their spread eagles.

It has been a weird winter this year at Silver Star Mountain. A slow start in November seen the park grow at a snails pace. December and January brought some snow, enough to get the ball rolling in the park with most of the jibs and jumps being constructed. Then we all clung to winter as February brought spring-like weather and chocolate colored snow, but like most season's at Silver Star winter came in March with a vengence, snowing, day after day, week after week. The perfect formula the park crew was looking for in order to construct the best Slopestyle lane, for the 3rd annual Showdown Throwdown Hoedown, @ The Star. I really don't know how to describe this event in words, so I'll let the pictures do the talking. Check it out because, the skills that were being used while on course were mind-blowing to say the least. (Photos: Tim Fitzgerald)
On March 15th, Silver Star hosted the last 1516 Rail Jam Event under the lights in the village. The park crew kept things interesting by setting up a 40ft streetstyle down rail, paired up with a 45ft down flat down rail. Check out the pics! (Photos: Tim Fitzgerald)
After the last 1516 Rail Jam at Silver Star, the park crew got some feedback that maybe the set-up was too easy and maybe we could step it up a bit for the next one on February 17th. So the park crew pulled some strings, jacked the budget and here is what we came up with. Sorry to everyone who might have been intimidated by features but thats what happens when ask for a more challenging set-up. (Photo: Tim Fitzgerald)
The snow has passed and the sun has come out with Blue Skies just in time to display the newly constructed L/XL Jump Lane in The Telus Park @ Silver Star. So far there are three jumps in a row, with a forth jump platform under construction. You can go 30ft, to 40ft to 50ft or stick to the sidecars that are a comfortable 35ft long. Along with the jump lane the park crew has been busy installing more and more jib/rail features with the jib count sitting at 25 right now. Users can expect to see the Halfpipe, the wallride, and both s-features in the upcoming week, so stay tuned.
Happy New Year Everyone! The holidays at Silver Star have come and gone but the events and park crew decided to end the 2007 year off with a bang and set-up up a super fun rail jam set-up right in the village under the lights. Skiers and snowboarders gathered in the village and took part in a 2 hr jam format rail jam, that some would call organized chaos, but others would call it the best thing going. For anyone who wanted to jib until they could jib no more..... Silver Star was the place to be on Dec 29 2007. (Photos by Tim Fitzgerald/Silver Star Resort)
The Terrain Park @ Silver Star Mountain opened it's gates on Friday Dec 21. Despite a slow start to winter the park crew was able to crank out for features for the holidays. Users were greeted with one blue bird day in the park because the following day it started snowing and hasn't stopped! If the weather keeps coming park users can expect the jump line and the halfpipe to be rollin by early January along with the rest of the SS rail fleet!
After a bit of a slow start, and a punch in the face by the Pineapple Express, Silver Star is back on track and has opened the Comet Six Pack, which means the park is not far behind. It is currently snowing at the resort and the the park crew is getting pumped up on shaping some snow in the next couple of weeks. Also look to attend the Drop In rail jam series happening in the village @ Silver Star on Dec 29. More info @ http://www.skisilverstar.com
After a week of sunshine, winter has shown up providing us with over 15cm of new snow and no sign of slowing in the next couple of days. If things go as plan the resort should be opening within the next week. You can expect to see the park crew out there getting the park ready to go and open as soon as possible.
The Snowcats sit awaiting the upcoming winter season @ Silver Star.
