CSIA Park and Pipe Course

Hi all, We are looking at running a Park and Pipe certification course at COP sometime in February. We need six people that are interested for us to be able to run the course. The CSIA Park and Pipe Course certifies you to teach halfpipe, basic rotations and rails. It's a great course for anybody that wants some good training for their own park skiing, or anyone that wants to get into teaching skiing ,or is already an instructor, without having to teach 3 year olds for the first 5 years. Reply to this post and I'll send you all the info if you're interested.

Hey guys, I'm working on getting this course going with Jay and I beleive all you need is your level 1 CSIA. Originally the course was gonna run this weekend but not enough people signed up, so yeah, come on out!

I dont think you need a level 1 cert. My old coach told me I should do it and I dont need a Level 1 cert, but I can e-mail him to find out.
But, I am interested, but I might be doing it at Fernie, but thats not decided yet. So could you please send me some info. Thanks

According to the info I have received, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A CSIA LEVEL 1 to take hte park and pipe course. This is still be clarified, I will have mroe info in the next few days. We are planning some informal training sessions leading up to the course. I will keep you posted on dates and times...

CSIA Park and Pipe Benchmarks:
Rotations: 180, 360
Aerial Manouvers: 5 manouvers, grabs or oldschool stuff like cossaks, twisters, spread, etc.
Rails: slide a 10-foot rail showing proper sliding body position and technique
They spend quite a bit of time on progression and skill improvement on the course, so most competent advanced skiers should be okay. As mentioned above, we will be holding practice sessions once or twice a week leading up to the course.

Okay, so I spoke with the course coordinator yesterday, and you DO NOT NEED TO BE A LEVEL I INSTRUCTOR to take this course. It's open to anyone. We are planning it tentatively for the second week in Feb, at COP. Most likely it will be a night/day course, probably Thurs/Fri evenings and Saturday all day. If you are interested, keep an eye on this thread as I will post the training session times once they are available.

Things are looking good this time, there is definitely a lot more interest! We are looking at either Tuesday or Thursday evenings for the training sessions, from 6-8 pm, these will be free of charge, at COP, starting the week of Jan 17, let me know which night works best for you guys. Anyone that is seriously interested, msg me your email address and I'll send you some links and additional info. We can tailor the course to fit people's schedules, so if you're interested but not sure if you can make it, let me know too and we'll see what we can come up with.

Okay gang, here is the lowdown. SInce I have received enough interest to go ahead and book the course, I sent off the email today. Within the next week we should have a better idea exactly when the course will be held. Currently, expect the course to be either $190, or $275 depending on whether its a two or three day course. The sessions will be starting next week, most likely on Thursdays, in the evening. Post if you want to come out, they will be free, but you'll need a COP lift pass. Early next week I will post when and where to meet.

What do you think are the chances of having the two day course? Cause I could think of a lot of things to do with the extra money, like get my car to work

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. In order to pass the course and get certified, u need to be at a certain level of riding. To get to that level we will be offering free training sessions at COP leading up to the course. To take the actual course will cost money, still waiting to hear back for the exact amount...

Just got an email from the Western Course coordinator for the CSIA. The course will be late Feb (after the long weekend for sure) and will be the three day course. Next week we will have exact dates for the course. To get the ball rolling, I will be teaching the first couple of sessions, with some guest coaches. The first session will be next Thursday (Jan 20), from 7-9pm. We will meet at hte top of the stairs just outside the doors by the rental shop at COP. Look for me in a black jacket and a black Bad Lt. Helmet. Hope to see you all out there! Remember these sessions are informal and free of charge with a COP lift ticket, they are not directly related to the COP snowschool.

Hi gang, As of 6pm, sorry about the late notice, we do not have a coach for this Thursday, Jan 27. There will be a session next Thursday, Feb 3, for sure, starting at 7pm, running until 8 or 9pm. Once again, sorry about the late notice, the coach that was supposed to do it had to work overtime at his real job and won't be able to make it.

I just got word yesterday that the CSIA Park and Pipe course sheduled for later this month has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts with COP staff requirements and lack of interest. Guess we'll have to try again later guys...there is one in March at Louise, check www.snowpro.com for more info.
