I'm thinking about doing an exchange student program next year and in the process of deciding where to go. One of my thoughts is Norway...I just get the feeling it's a beautiful country and I would love to experience the skiing. It looks amazing, especially compared to New Hampshire, where I am right now. So I got a few questions regarding Norway and the skiing. I don't know how to speak Norwegian, but on the website it tells me that you don't need any previous knowledge of speaking it, and you just learn it as you are there and as it is spoken around you. So, is Norwegian a hard language to learn to speak, and do many Norwegians know how to speak English? Also, what are the schools like? What do they offer for classes? What are some major ski areas? How far away are the ski areas from the cities or where you live? How is the skiing? I'm hoping, if I go, when I get placed with a host family, that they will be interested in skiing also, or at least I will meet fellow students who are, so that I will have someone to ski with, and go to the mountain with. On a scale of percentage, about how many kids ski over there? Over here, skiing is quite popular; I'm used to going skiing every weekend with friends. Do you guys go skiing every weekend up there? Well, I hope you can answer my questions! Thanks!

You will prob learn Norwegian while you are here.

I dont think it is a hard language to speak, and all Norwegian kids start learning English when they are about 8years old, so the majority of Norwegian people can speak English.

The schools are different from the american schools, you have to bring your own lunch or you can buy it, but we dont sell hamburgers and stuff like that. I live in Narvik and when it's about january it is quite good here. The ski area is 1min away from the city, but the city isnt so big.

I think about 30-40% here in Narvik skis. We are used to ski everyday of the week.

I live in oslo and i ski almost every day. Almost all norwegian people speak english and there is alot of good places to ski like Hemsedal, trysil, Oppdal, Narvik, and lots of others

you should try to get a host family in Oslo, the capitol. they got some hils right in the city or almost. 20 mins with the tram. and it's a much cooler place to be than f.eks Narvik.

u can alse take the bus to other good ski resorts like hafjell. its not that far away...

so come to Oslo if your going to Norway
