This week in the mail, you should be receving a short newsletter from your MP (mine is gordon o'connor). On the back, there is a little survey that reads 'Issue: The dreciminalization of small amounts of marijuana'. Make sure you get you mail, cut this out, vote YES, and put it in the mailbox. If you are like me wou will also make 100 photocopies. so check your mail, have your voice heard.

fuck decriminalization. i only advocate legalization. decrim just means you get fined for small amounts and jail for large amounts. harsher on growers and stupid in general. the system works fine, there's plenty of loopholes. if we fix the system, we should do it right, not half assed. decrim will only punish us further. i do NOT support it. legal or bust.

^^ yeah hucksplat you hit it. decrim just makes it easier for them to hassle me by givin a fine. the way it is now they just dont bother. and the accompanying legislation cracks down HARDCORE on stoned drivers, and admit it alot of stoners are driving but they arent the ones getting into crashes. shits fine as is

ill admit to having done it, as have tons of people i know, not just idiot teenagers but older people i respect. its hard to understand till youve tried but there really isnt that much impairment. i dont blame you for doubting this, i laughed when i heard it and was very concerned about my friends driving around stoned. But one day i tried and lo and behold its totally fine (within a reasonable limit of course). the thing about the new legislation is that it can force you to provide a blood sample if you are pulled over. since THC stays in the bloodstream for many days, and there is no established 'impairment level' as there is with alcohol, putting this into effect can only create a huge mess

a guy who was stoned thought it was 'trippy' to drive 140 down the backroads in my area and he ended up going through a stopsign and killing the mom of my lil bro's friend. worth the high?

could you not say the EXACT same thing about driving drunk? drinking isnt criminal. your argument has no merit, because if anything, it means that alcohol, an easily obtainable drug should be illegal. Its the exact same factor of trust.

i never said i was for or against it. my veiws on it are similar to the situation of beer. why not legalize and and try to control it like the gov't controls the liquor stores. im my opinion beer and alchol fuck you up way worse if we are talking about imparment so if beer and alchol are easy to get, why not weed.
i was just not condoning stoning and driving

oh, thats cool, driving high pisses me off too, i hate it when my buddies do it. if it were decriminalized you would be able to get your licence taken away from it cause they could test you. now there is nothing.

yeah ..if they de crim it...then they wont need to go through so much trouble to give out tickets...but if they have to arrest us, they have to do all this shit and fill out forms...cops are people too...lazy just like us... if its de crim they will just slap tickets around all the time, but at least you wont go to jail??? win/lose?

keep it the way it is!!!!!!!!!!! or go all the way and total ligalize it. I like my neighburs jsut where they are.... I can yell out my window for pot... i don't want to have to go looking for it. if they de crim it, alot of dealers will sstart selling E and other highly imparitive drugs. My friends dad a city worker sells weed... and lots of it too.. like lots.. if you de drim it.. it may make him think twice... that means the under dog dealer more often teen agers won't be able to deal. because they'll be cut off....
the last joint i smoke was approx 33 minutes ago... by the way. And i wasn't paranoid of any fuckin cops trying to bust me while i hit a j down the side of my house.... I've allreday struggled with paranoia once when i was younger and just starting to smoke.. why do it twice?

Decrim is an important step towards change.
Theres no way society is going to just pop and say fine legalize it. You have to move in gradual steps to appease grandma and grampa, or they'll get cranky and continue to vote for people like stephen harper.
That said, decrim means less kids in jail, less of YOUR taxpayers money spent on trying them for possession, and a chance to ease society into the idea.
*yes* it is a halfassed approach. But its the only way change is going to happen. There no politician in the right mind out there who would willingly support a legalization bill- becuase most of the people he represents would vote him out next time around. Decriminalization seems like a small step for some conservative voters, and we can get a better consensus on it- better to do that then deadlock things where they are.
What most of you monkies don't understand is politics is all about compromise and alliance making. Telling your MP that you dont want decrim will in NO way aid your legalization efforts- becuase 85%+ of the rest of the people voting him don't care.
However, decrim means that, if it happens, M-J is going to be seen less and less as a social-legal taboo- which means more users, and more support (and eventually legalization).
