Crystal Ranked 7 in top 25 - Baker 17

Dudes (and dudets) crystal got 7 this year in that top 25 list of ski resorts in N. America. that's freakin sweet, because we're getting more publicity, but also about this new chair they're putting up in the Northback sounds sweet, but also a little iffy because it'll attract more traffic over there. What do u think bout that whole project thing....baker got 17

Crystal Rules. I hate the publicity though, I wish skiing would continue to Focus on Dear Valley and the Yuppie resorts.
What about the North back chair? I bet a few people die due to it. We'll get a skier or two to fall off the waterfall, a skier or two will hit trees, somebody will get lost in a tree well, and somebody will get lost in the woods. It sucks they'll send a bunch of idiots blindly out there, but that's what area expansion does (just look at Bachelor's NW territory, they opened it up and the newbies were dying the next year) I think for locals with passes it'll be ok, we can park down there and get first tracks while all the Seattle people wait down at the main area for parking, shuttles, and tickets. Plus, it'll be great on the weekdays when the moutain is dead. But I'd rather it be the old way where you have to work for it, know where your going, and concentrate on avy conditions...this will lead to some death and carnage, I'm sure of it...

I hear ya huckasaurus, but look at it this way, at least you won't have to sit and get cold waiting for a shuttle in the northback. Plus, it will open up campbell basin and the southback because all the dumbasses will be in the North. If anything, we can just keep heading further out and finding more terain.
I also heard they were going to put a Chron-dola from the base to the top, bypassing the chinnook-rex ride. Should be sweet.

what huckasaurus said... my best friend's dad is on ski patrol and last year they had someone go over the waterfall, with a new chair, that will only happen more often. but oh well, i'll be in south back all the time. that's where it's at.

crystal is so amazingly good in the BC. everywhere else pretty much sucks cuz you'll get your pass pulled if you're skiin faster that 40mph. and that sucks

im thinking the northback chair is going to be cool... sort of... northbacks never worth it anyway because i5 fucking blows... and it gets tracked out anyway. but i think on a powder day this will split people up between northback and c.6... so neither will be quite as crowded... and opening chair is always local steeze anyway. fuck i want to go skiing right now.

There's always places to go for snow in the Northback...even with the new chair, those of you willing to hike will find terrain the newbies haven't stolen....plus, no more waiting for the fuckign shuttle...i've always loved the Northback, and while newbies will be there, there's plenty of shit they won't hit...and it's all there for us if you know what you're doing.

they used to have a park years ago, on quicksilver like you said. probably, I don't know.... 10 years ago now? it wasn't much as terrain parks weren't the big cool thing yet, but it was still fun. it was kinda up near the top.

I just saw the magazine and I definatly don't like the publicity of the 3 areas I ski the most, Baker, Crystal and Whistler (I know Whistler has close to the most publicity of any area but just the Blackcomb back-bowl area in particular).
I did like the aerial photo of the Blackcomb back-bowls, I can carry it folded up in my pocket to help me pick my lines.
Overall I thought it was a pretty good list for 'Skiing', minus Sun Valley and some others. They just forgot to mention that 300 inches of Baker's annual snowfall is in the form of rain and Crystal isn't as renowned for their powder as much as they are for their world class crust.
All times are Eastern (-5)
