Can anyone back up that they kick stores out of the show if they have better than great deals on this years stuff.

Heard that they price-fix, and that some stores have been banned for not conforming. I guess if you're Dynastar and some shop is selling your brand new stuff way below retail, you wouldn't be too happy... but still.

If you are dynastar, you have already made your money when the dealer buys your skis to stock in thier shop. The price that the shop sells it at doesnt affect what dynastar would make. If anyhting, that would be good for the ski company because more people would be riding thier skis, and the store will have to buy more stock to replace what they have sold.

Where that is a problem is for the other retailers in that it can create and unfair competition. Some vendors feel that certain price points on given lines can devalue that line as well. For a long time, Burton would not allow their stuff to be sold in certain places or times. They still control where their stuff gets sold. Its a similar thing to what happens when you see a core line being sold at a Sport Mart or the like. It may be the same gear, but it is devalued in the market's eyes so will not have the same sell though, nor the same cachet for the core shops to carry.

Companies don't like their products marked down to near cost. Image is everything. The only way to keep retail prices up, is by keeping the 'actual' cost up. Once the brand looses its image (often related with cost, fuck quality), the company can no longer sell their products to retailers at the same cost amount. Shortun Mauii you're right (they sell more)... long term, it isn't in their best interest having retailers selling their skis dirt cheap.

I absolutely agree with you 360spins, and you're right that other retailers are likely the ones bringing up the most fuss. Since say Dynastar can go about the matter directly with the particular shop(s).


Anyways I'd still like to know whether these rumours are true?

con_cept, i believe the way most stores do it is they a very small amount of new product to the show and a shitload of previous year's equipment so they can get rid of it. they don't kick stores out of the show at all. if you have the money to pay for a booth then they let you set up

^ski show foo

i was there yesterday (saturday) and had a pretty good time. was just lookin to get some hoodies and tees from ski companies but all i could pick up was a Spy hoody from Corbetts.

wasn't supposed to meet up with anyone from NS but on the way home, i met up with a guy who had the 'Hello my name is:' sticker on. i think it was pipe_munky or somethin like that. i just noticed him cause he had an NS hoody on. i then found out that someone was selling NS inventory out in the parking lot for cheap. i was pissed at missing that but w/e, had a good time at the ski show and great time at the bike show.

props go out to all the people at the shops that helped me out with questions ( i was wearing a blue jibculture hoody with a black K2 Snow hat) and props to all the people that made the show possible. good job
