no it doesn't it suck, we are all better people for closing it. It would be rad though if nobody went there anymore except to hit it up back country style, you could builso many sick jumps and stuff if no one was there. but they will probly have some sort of cat skiing operation there...because they already have the cat tracks and runs.

yah maybe but i think they will probably take the cats to another hill.

Good call on going up there this summer. Ya, that'll be sweet if you can hike it and build kickers. Be a good place to hit up for a weekend. Sleep in the back of a truck. Build your kicker the first day, session it a bit, and have the whole second day to session it and just have a blast. Plus, just walking around there after it's shut down would be interesting.

Thats just it, Fortress always was a place to hike BC and build kickers - only when they were open you could buy a lift ticket for next to nothing and instead of hiking, you could ride a lift for all or part of the way. The icing on the cake was the cheap food and the closeness to Calgary. Now its closed because kids these days would rather smash their brains out on icy shit in a pre-made 'park' rather than ski fresh lift-accessed powder both alpine and treeline with an abundance of natural couloirs combined with a 'hands-off' BC access policy, where you could build jumps to suit and actually have a safe landing, not having to worry about some fuckin zipperhead doing the Power Wedge with a rubber shark on his helmet snake you seconds before hitting a table at full-bore. You all have shit for brains.

They closed because it was'nt economically valuable. Fortress was that hidden secret of the Rockies, it was considered to small for the tourists and far away from highway 1 from banff to make enough money. I really think it was the location that killed them. Ever since Nakiska was built Fortress lost about half of it's revenue. If RCR only put the time and money to invest into a few high speeds quads and expand a quad down to Fortress Lake, no doubt Fortress would be able to compete with Sunshine or Louise.
If only Charlie Locke used his other half of his brain no of this would have happened........

I understand that Fortress would never be a destination resort. If I flew from germany and wound up at Fortress, I'd be pissed. But I just think its astounding that given the ticket prices and terrain and snowfall and proximity to Calgary that Fortress couldn't make it work, especially after Wimpeygreen closed. Like tickets and passes at Fortress were half of what they were anywhere else. I guess money doesnt matter to people. Fortress was so close. I guess people like to drive and gas is free. I guess skiing untouched pow is 'uncool' and ice is in. I guess liftlines are all the rage now. I guess its cool to get raped by patrol for ducking ropes. It just boggles my mind why anyone from Calgary WOULDN'T go to Fortress. If you are from overseas and want the whole nine yards by all means go to Louise or Sunshine, but even then the resorts in BC and the States are 10 times better. You'd just think that there would be enough hardcore BC enthusiasts in the calgary area that didnt have unlimited funds who would go to a mountain like Fortress. Anyone that regularly goes to COP, Nak or Norquay is a waste of fuckin skin. The snow sucks, the terrain sucks and you can hit jumps anywhere, so dont give me the park bullshit. parks are gay. I played in parks once, when I was 5. What are you gonna do? Work on your 'newschool' 'tricks'? Please. nobody gives a fuck, except prepubescent mogul racers that cant make the cut and need other options, so you all go impress the little 12 year old japanese boys in your gay ass park. So you can do an Ooptie 9000, big fuckin deal, I can strangle you with my cock and melt you down into wax. Fuck you all suck.

221, agreed. Fortress was the fucking shit. But Fortress nevered advertised jack shit. I think that would help out a bit. Fuck, I even saw a ski nakiska sign on highway 1 last year. fucking dicks. I remember a few years back where I could get a Kananaskis seasons pass for 199 dollars which included Wintergreen, Fortress, Nakiska and early/late season at louise. And a day ticket to fortress was 20 bucks for a youth and 25 for adult. Now you have to pay 400 fucking dollars to shred just the icy ski slopes at Nakiska. RCR calls it increased insurance rates, I call it fucking bullshit! And with ski patrol at fortress. The best in the Rockies, they'd let you ski anything that you could lay an eye on without getting your pass stripped or get an ear full from some dick. Fuck, the patrol even invited me some weekends to go on a bombing run. Don't think the dicks at Louise let you do that.
Enough with the rant, I'll promise RCR one thing, they will never see my fucking face at any of there resorts as long I am around. Fuck you fucking fucks for closing Fortress you dicks!

Fortress was cool and if you think it sucked you can go fuck yourself and move to manitoba. Fortress' only downfall in my opinion was the shitty infastructure. I like louises terrain a bit better though.

you guys are pretty intense YO!
Fortress ruled for those half-days where you needed to get a ski-fix. It wasn't profiting, they close it: that's business. There probably won't be a cat-op there because it's in the park.
Hike-away, take gear...

I think the biggest problem with Fortress now is that there will be tons of little groms saying, 'Fortress is closed! Let's go hike it and build booters!' And completely ignore the fact that while it was operational Fortress had AVALANCHE control. Scary shit.
Daffy's are totally rad.

Defentitly, if you are not going to be wearing avi gear and going out by yourself to fortress, you are going to get killed. I won't be suprised if a few deaths come from fortress this year and huge lawsuits get filed. But there's a massive sign that warns you that fortress is closed and no rescue is avaliable. Practically the whole ski area is prone to sliding when it's not groomed. Espsecially this years when there's no grooming and layers will form.

I wouldn't be surprised if a group of infesters (investors) comes forward and takes fortress. Genesis Land Managemant Corp. had a plan to build a ski resort at Shark and Sparrowhawk mountains in K country but got shut down by enviro fags. Fortress is already developed and still has quite a bit of infrastructure as well as provincial support. With the economy booming like it is, we need more hills, not less. otherwise I'll quit skiing and take up drug trafficing. All the hills are just gonna be more crowded this year.
New slogan: Fuck the bears, build more skihills.
