Why Finnish people last names end in -NEN

For the most part it seems that folks from Finland have last names that end in -nen. Hartikanen, Lykonen, Seppanen. Why? Does it mean anything?

Ski-Hobo, nah. They're just fooling you. All the surnames in Finland end in -nen. It is written so in our national book, thy great Karelia.

as an American who can speak suomea but sux at reading/writing it...the "nen" is kind of a suffix for where you're from.
ex: jarvi-nen = from the lake or suomilai-nen= person from Finland etc...
