I went to Edelweiss tonight. It was the worst experience of my life. They got rid of that rail at the top, so all they have is the tiny rail and the kink. They killed the already horrible jumps... it can't get any worse really.
Matt
sounds like they really know how to step it down. why can't they just get their act together. there is potential(very little) but still potential for a decent park there, but they must TRY to make it bad or something.
There is a crew there that was supposed to be in charge of the park. I was talking to one of them the other day (you probably know him: Derek) and he said that him and his crew suggest stuff all the time but they just won't do it. He told them how bad the jumps were, but they won't change them. It's an atrocity. I'm going to try my best not to go there ever again, but night skiing around here is so limited.
Matt, you're so right. I was up there about a week and a half ago for night skiing and those jumps were probably the most dangerous things I've ever seen. You need 50 mph just to clear the gaps, and then you have to deal with the step down and the uneven/flat landing. And resorts wonder why they're insurance premiums are going up...
ya ben(teenage_zero) broke his leg on that junk. my ski club goes there every wednesday again starting februaru 11th.. night skiing of course. anybody know if there's a chance i can get a shovel or something? cause i figure if i can get a shovel up there i can fix up the flatrail(if it's up) at least.
yah, woste night of skiing i have ever had... i dread having to go there 2 more times with my school cause it is so horrible. the stepdowns are awful and not maintained. there are three of them, but one is utterly usles cause you cant get enough speed to hit it and make the landing, the other is almost usless cause you can just barley make the landing some of the time when your going as fast as you can and the last one has the shittest landing i have ever seen. the rails are poorly placed and there are only 3 of them... the only decent one is a singly kinked rail. at the end of the park it almost looks like they tried to make a quaterpipe and failed misserably, although you can get lots of air easily, you land on flat and there is nothing you can do about it. Edelweiss sucks some serious balls.
Yeh I broke my leg on the middle one. But it got fixed pretty fast so now i get to go use my season pass there =/ Hopefully everything will be magically better by tomorrow.
That's a total bummer that you broke your leg. I cased the jump on my first run when I was there.. I was going sooo friggin' fast. Landed on the practically up-hill flat, and bounced for a mile, landing on my back. I was lucky to only have cut up the back of my knee with my ski. So ghetto.
Matt
i remember back when i was in grade 10, they had a decent park with a huge table and a whole lot of shit... why did it get so bad? you dont suppose that they have fixed it up at all do you?
I broke my back 2 winters ago on the jump at Edelweisse
Im going back tonite for my first time since the accident
Not terribly looking forward to it
* I had just launched myself 50feet in the air Off a boother when both my skiis pop off. So I think to myself What would Jared do?*
If anyone HAS to go there because of ski club, they should send Edelweiss an e-mail and link this thread telling them that they're missing the boat by about 4 years.
But if you don't HAVE to go there, just don't go. Let them miss out on a great opportunity... it's their own ignorance.
I have to go to fortune cause of ski club, does anyone know if their pipe is done? Its sad to see even fortune starting to do better than edelweiss. The thing that pisses me off most is that the guy at edelweiss told us that they had the bets park in the region...
the flatbar got reinstalled last night, along with the small trap rail and the flat-down-flat. placement seems a little flat to me but we'll see. though they did screw up the jumps again

They have a flat down flat? When did they get that?
Fortune's pipe isn't done (I went on Wednesday). They have a mild kink, a trap that isn't set up well for skiing at all, a 6 foot up to gap to 20 foot down which is just plain retarded (but they put a jump at the 20 so you can lip slide it.. that's pretty sick) and then they have a large c rail that's good.
its the west49 one they had 2 years ago...plus that baby homemade trap rail

The flat bar is really smooth at edelweiss, good sessions. the kink has a rather large gap to it but seemed smooth. I didnt hit it cause it was too cold up top. The double kink is a little steep and crazy and the baby trap is just lpanted in the ground. Basically teh kink and flat are good rails for sure.
Ye... Me and my crew do whatever maitenence we can but like matt said we get No support from the hill, they'll spend 3 days straight blowing snow for a race but wont take time to blow snow for a real table the two EQ rails are nice thoguh especially the down kink (probably the best rail in the region), For the rest of the season i'm skiing at Mont. Avila so i could care less about those management fuckers, if they want ot miss out on the revolution of parks, it's there loss.
