did anyone take the course on the weekend at st. saveur? if you did who passed?

i passed mine at Blue mtn on the weekend

15/18 students passed the bilingual course conducted at St-Sauveur/Avila.
Test standards were:
40 foot narrow box slide
5 consecutive hits on the 18 foot superpipe (bindings above the coping)
3 grabs
switch riding with 180 pops on demand
360 off a small knoll
30 foot tabletop jump

Fun course. Learned lots. Great crew. Kudos to coaches Don Puttee and Roger Castonguay.

the 40 foot box would have given the most troubles im assuming... who failed and how?

here's ours:

360 off small knoll
180 off small knoll
3 grabs off small knoll
5 hits in the pipe close to the lip
slide 9 ft aluminum rail


we had pretty damn easy because blue mtn's park was pretty haggard just like all of southern ontario

I agree pipe_munky, we had it easy.

However, I do think that most people that passed could've probably done more if they were required to .....

Person A: never rode halfpipe before and didn`t 360 the knoll
Person B: didn`t 360 the knoll
Person C: didn`t rail consistently

i'm completely clueless about this. so what do you do now that you have this certification? can you instruct? whats the deal here.

What's happening at many resorts now is that any instructor/coach who intends on taking their class into the park must have this certification. It proves you have a legitimate reason to be there, the knowledge of park safety and etiquette, and solid fundamentals for teaching basic trick progression. It helps limit the liability of the ski school, in case of accidents.

A large number of ski school instructors and mogul team coaches were present.

that's exactly why i took the course. that and the fact that i didn't wanna take the fucking level 1 course. i never did a solid 3 or slid a metal rail before the course so i definately got something out of the course other than the $10 million liability insurance.

def. should have been harder, but i guess I kno what I'm doing next year, I already have my CSIA level 1 and the park & pipe one would all help on the resume when applying out west.

The course develops instructors to teach BEGINNERS. The emphasis is on safety and solid fundamentals not boosting huge air and riding tech rails. The other thing you must realise is that those who can do, may not necessarily be able to teach (and vice versa). Right now, they're seeking the best balance.

Think of the level of skiing YOU had to be to pass the CSIA 1. You didn't have to be a World Cup racer so you shouldn't expect a P&P instructor to be an X-Games qualifier either.

Maybe they'll have higher level certifications in the future. Right now they're building an instructor base to work from. Until that time, we'll leave the advanced coaching to the pro camps and the prodding of peers.
