Highway 99

Anyone have any crazy Sea to Sky stories. My last few weekends have been psycho. The level of driving on that highway reaches new lows everytime I seem to be on it.
Last weekend I think I was cursed. I saw 5 major accidents in 1 Van-Whistler return trip. I was 3 cars behind a crazy head-on and watched that happen. I also watched a car flip into a ditch.
Some people are fuckin nuts.

And then today, the whole northbound side of the road at the Checkamus Canyon roadworks has been washed away in the rain!

Bring on the improvements!

yeah that road is preety dangerous, I went up to the Turkey sale this weekend and I saw a couple crashes too.

This Week I went to Outdoor school Camp with my grade.My teacher was in a Field talking to his Girlfriend at 11:30 pm, my friend and I were suspicious so we flashed a flaslight in the eyes of my teacher and they were closed. We Burst out laughing I said'His having phone sex'. So the Next Day I went around and told EVERYONE in my grade what happened last night. I said to them 'on the count of 3 we'll say MR. GIBSON were you MASTERBATING last night. My teacher we so red, it was fucking Hilarious

i drive that highway everyday. well lions bay to vancouver part. its annoying as shit when you have people doing 40 cus they cant drive the road. fucking americans/asians/albertans/people who cant drive corrners/

I once had to tail a convoy of motor homes in an early winter snow storm all the way from Horseshoe bay most of the way to Squamish. They would go stupid slow in all of the curves, then speed up for the passing lanes. The POS Tercel that I borrowed from a buddy wouldn't make to the passing speed. I was stuck in their spray for ages. It was the 7th ring of hell.

me and dave were hitching one day from whistler to van and we got a ride with some hippy dude...his van was full of furniture..we sat in between it in the back along with his dog...then his van also had no hood. he drove super fast in his crappy van that was about to explode..then started to roll a joint and swerve all over the road. it was sketchy.

I haven't really seen anything bad on the highway lately, but a couple of years ago we going northbound near the damn, and on the other side of the road a japanese tour bus had slid into the ditch and was laying on its side. The emergency windows were open and people we getting out. Once they got out they were all lined up taking pictures of each other in front of the bus. Crazy Japanese






I feel bad for people who don't drink, cause when they wake up in the morning, thats the best the're going to feel all day

Oh yeah, and another time I was driving up near black tusk and was behind a pickup with one of those camper thingys in the back. He obviously didn't know the road very well and was going quite slowly, but he found a bit of a place to pull over and let people pass. When he pulled the truck over he was slowing down and all of a sudden his two right wheels fall off into a ditch hidden by snow. Soo funny, the guy being nice to let people get passed then gets himself stuck.

It's too bad that highway is so damn dangerous, cuz it's really quite a beautiful drive. Really, it is...one of the best in North America.

I forget about the view now - it really is an amazing drive.
When its 2 Lanes they can have the I'm-A-Tourist-And-I'm-Gonna-Drive-At-35-So-I-Can Look-Out-The-Window-And-Swerve-Into-Oncoming-Traffic Lane, on the right, and then the I'm-A-Local-In-A-Fucking-Huge-Truck-So-Get-The-Fuck-Out-Of-The-Way-Coz-I-HAVE-To-Pass-You-No-Really-I-HAVE-To Lane on the left. And then the left hand lane can race each other the whole way so that can get there 4 cars in front of the slow dude.

It will be great. ;)

ill probably die on it this winter. but people drive really fucking slow in the summer. have to speed up to like 130 or something... i dont know your damn kilometers... to get around people. but see, im gonna not know what im doing come winter and go flying into the water. driving like a vag the first times gonna be gay.

i got passed by an old guy in an M3 while doing 170 in january on one of the straights some crazy people on there. But it is a killer drive if it's empty and it's light out (or you have good lights) and its not raining, i used to try and go atleast an hour earlier to the mountain just to get the open road. I hope the new construction doesnt ruin it, i'd hate to see it get straightened out more.

the first part is unlikely to be changed very much because it would just be way too damn expensive. The big contruction now is in the canyon starting at BOB. Its making the road straighter there, but also wider. That section was always sketchy so it'll be way better now.

I love driving that road too in the summer, but in the winter when all you want to do it get to the mountain as fast as possible to ski, these changes are better

Don't forget the Time when my family and I were coming down from Whistler or was that just my Dad and I anyway, a 1-2 ago I Police officer died on that road and we saw the crash, it was shitty as hell. It was that RCMP officer on highway 99

my boss used to do crazy bets, one time for $1500 he had to chug a twosix and drive to whistler from northvan, apparently he did it and survived just fine.....endangering countless other drivers on the road while doing so

dude, shit just happens on that road. last oct 26 one of my good friends died in a car accident on the way to pemby and just two weeks ago, i was driving south when my back tire blew out. i fish tailed all over and i got smoked. accidents happen, no matter how good of a driver you are. i had been up and down that road thousands of times, but when you are missing a tire or when something goes wrong, none of it helps. i used to rip that highway like it was nothing, i drive a whole lot slower snow.
