I'd say the pipe is marginal at best. The start ramp needs to be bigger and the transition needs to be wider. Considering it was built with the first dragon ever made I guess it's ok.
They kinda missed the boat (as usual) by attempting to build the thing in the first place though. They could blown about 1/3 of the snow and had 2 or 3 nice tables that would have been way better than the pipe could ever be, and they would have been ready in Jan. not almost March!
Why would they EVER try to build that pipe? They know it's going to suck before they start. Blowing that much snow costs a fortune (no pun intended). It's such a waste of money and time.
They obviously have no idea what they're doing. Like you said, they could have blown WAY less snow and had a couple really good jumps, and they could've been open a long time ago.
They'll probably now bitch about how they wasted all this money on their 'terrain park' that no one wants to ride, and they'll blame a lack of interest instead of their own lack of intelligence.
it was fun on saturday. kids were throwin down, and it was in reasonable shape. They need to go over it like two more times to widen out the tranny and it should be alright. but yeah. some tables would have been nice.

Harvey, you are bang on. Fortune will probably see the lack of halfpipe use as a lack of interest.
What compounds my frustration in this whole Fortune park ordeal is they have an invaluable resource like DC ready and willing to help design and devote time to getting a strong park up and they don't use it.
On top of this there is such a strong freestyle, freeride program at Fortune now, with tons of kids who are working so hard but don't have the terrain to match their desire to improve. ARG!
People need to start trying to contact Fortune in an attempt to give as much credible feedback as possible. With it's ridiculous proximity to the city and good terrain Fortune really could be the place to go.
tweak: I hate to say it, but you also say that a corked 3 no grab is like arials, 'see how much you can spin' I believe were your words, so I'd love someone else's opinion of the current condition of the pipe.
Anyone else been there since the pipe's been 'done'?
yeah, danny (psychicskier) and i have been there on 3 occasions, yesterday included. its better than nothing, but as people have been saying, the drop in is nowhere near large enough or high enough. the right wall is mostly perfect, but the left wall is just brutal. it has made everyone bail, no joke...it sends you right to the flats. ive still seen some great riding though, a skier was attempting alley oop flairs last night, and danny was consistently stomping flairs and 5's yesterday too.
so overall it is in rough shape, but we still manage to have fun.

by the way, im not in any way supporting fortune's decisions by saying that im glad they have a pipe. i also would much rather have had jumps earlier on in the season, instead of a pipe for the last two or so weeks.
just thought i'd make that clear.

yeah, well i'm entitled to my opinon on no grab 3s. nehoo, I think that it's good fortune has a pipe. it expands the terrain available to ottawa riders. Calabogie and Pakenham both have respectable tables so why not just go there?

why should you have to go to 3 different places to get a good dose of everything...theres no reason a hill cant have good jumps, good rails and a pipe (not that it will ever be done properly) I think every hill has potential but noone follows through with any plans and everything just goes to shit. they also need people who will take the time to learn how to make things...takes more then just a few kids with ideas and shovels to build a park...takes snowmakers and groomers and everyone else. the hills still havent realised how much business a GOOD park could generate...snowboarding and newschool is a growing market waiting to be tapped

yo man harvey, the pipe blows man. Compared to tremblants, the walls suck its like skiing a wave man. It isnt vert and straight its like bent and shoots you backwards.
TRY EVERYTHING EVEN IF IT MEANS KICKING YOUR OWN ASS
a park can and does have that. well 2 parks. tremblant and sauveur both have a nice pipe, wicked rails and nice jumps. i do also see that the $ and distance may be an issue, but it's not like our 'discussions' about it on this here website are going to change anything about the shittiness of fortune.
only calabogie is worth even a bit of props. but they damn well desver it. Andy does so much with what he has, its the only place that I really get impressed by.
pakehnam has a sick jump they jsut put up this weekend, its going to be open til the end of the season if anyone wants to give it a go, its a good jump for sure...... ask mikee and danny, i dont think they minded it.... -Nick Iwanyshyn

'Ski for yourself, do what you want and fuck everyone else'
I think one solution that fortune should consider would be to start a park pass. If everyone really wanted to ski a park then they could get park pass which would go to maintaing decent jumps and rails. Also we woudn't have to worry about fucking instructors bring all there kids into the park and messing everything up! What could be better?
