TroyBallsackdude thats bananas. bought moments 2 years ago and it was maybe like $120 bones import fee shipping to Ottawa. still shit but not eye watering. over 400 is bonkers.
BallClapperThat’s insane. Was there no disclosure on the Vishnu site when ordering? Saying it could be gnarly for shipments outside the us? Feel like there should be.
TRVP_ANGELGlock + shiesty when the mail man show up
partyandBSship it to ogdensburg, ny post office or the ups store there for general delivery and pick it up and drive it back over the border. blend it in with your other skis in the car so it doesn’t seem like you came over just to pick it up as i’m not sure if that’s a red flag or something
ZenyattaKickI do this as I live on the Michigan border. They’ll ask you if you have anything to declare, I’ve done it where I pick something go ski in the US and then bring it back later, but going to cross the border just to get a package they’ll know somethings up.

Way*MoUPS is notorious for jacking up the price above the actual duties with their own fees.
Call and get them to give you an itemized breakdown then figure out which lines are actual duties and which are UPS. Call again and bitch and you MIGHT get some removed.
skiermanYeah man, they should definitely be responsible for educating every braindead child on the planet about their respective countries' import laws prior to orders shipping out. As a ski manufacturer you should have real time tax/duty info. to 190+ different countries which displays upon checkout automatically depending on the persons' address plus whatever UPS' holding and processing fees are for that country. Its so simple.
Or you know, learn about your own fucking countries' import rates before shopping internationally.
HypeBeastIt's very odd op didn't have this disclosed in the checkout. I buy scotch often from the UK and they clearly mark in under the shipping; they take the money and pay the fee so no issues when it arrives. Paying import taxes like this for individual consumers is weird as shit.

skiP.E.I.Yeah UPS overcharges all the time just to see what they can get away with. Even if you pay they’ll probably bill you again.
VISHNUHate to see this. I mark everything as low as I possibly can but other than that there's not much I can do. I can't influence tax policy in my own stupid ass country, let alone Canada. Sorry.
trippinnpetedamn so I’m paying $420 just to import skis I paid $700 for
playerhater46Jet ships with usps, no fees, problem solved

Way*MoYeah, nah. Almost all outdoor industries put duties and taxes on the customer.
You (customer) always had to pay import duties on bike stuff over $800.
coronadude if you paid $700 your fees should be no higher than $289. UPS is ripping you off. Call them, ask for a breakdown, refuse to pay anything over what you need to. For $130 it's worth the fight (and is worth it on principal anyways).

ZenyattaKickThe taxes are higher rn because of the on going tariff war, I was told sporting goods are closer to %20 on tax rather than the normal %13 we pay in Ontario. So I do believe UPS is ripping you off, but unfortunately the taxes are high rn too
corona25% tariff
13% HST
That still leaves $130 unaccounted for.
VISHNUI also shipped with USPS until their service fell apart in the beginning of the year and had to switch to UPS to keep skis arriving to you in a timely fashion instead of taking a month or more. If you are receiving skis in Canada from the US and not paying import at all someone is lying about something major somewhere and that is not something I like to be involved with.
playerhater46Jet ships with usps, no fees, problem solved
partyandBSwell there’s still the cost of international shipping (fuel, customs, operational expenses, etc.) plus the inflated prices due to currency exchange. $130 still seems steep for all that though
coronaI can confirm that if I put a Canadian address on the Vishnu website it charges $29 for economy international shipping. It would be downright illegal to claim that and take payment only to have the shipping company bill you more for shipping.
Christian_BaleThe two people who ride jets at my local had to pay fees
skiermanLOL where'd you go to law school, buddy? You have zero clue what you're talking about.
playerhater46Awwwn that’s too bad:( :(
