Newb

recently I've noticed there's a bunch of kids that don't know shit about skiing online and at the mtn. They can barely do a wonky 180 yet they're dripped out in $1000 outerwear (typically Harlaut, Vulgus, and arcteryx). Don't get me wrong, anyone joining the ski community should be welcomed but these kids don't try to get better, only going off the knuckle or straight airing and only show up to the mountain because its a Tiktok microtrend. I was wondering what others thought about this.

Not really anyones job to police kids on the mountain. Who gives a fuck if they aren't getting better its just skiing, if they're having fun they're doing it right.

aint a big deal they aint bothering nobody. also keep in mind if they were wearing dope and montec some people would criticize them for that, and id rather people buy from rider owned companies like vulgus and harlaut

i think dropping several hundred dollars on non essential gear is not core at all. but im the last person to judge anybody about progression. tiktok is definitely a valid criticism, but you're also just lumping everyone who u think is worse into that crowd. u don't really have a way of knowing.

idk for me, my instagram has actually really connected me to the mountain i ski at. it literally got me in with the good crowd, they liked my edits and shredsauce maps and i started hanging out with them now we homies. so it's not totally worthless.

at the end of the day i’d personally rather posers buy “core” clothing over mainstream garbage, at least it’s more money to the side of the sport we all love. maybe they’ll learn, maybe they won’t. the quad xl 06 cargos ain’t gonna sell themselves.

While it can be annoying this is an overall good thing for ski culture. Getting kids skiing should be everyone on this websites priority, who cares if they go ski because they saw it on TikTok. Also hating on someone for wearing cool clothes while not being good is wack.
