oldmanskiSkiing has always had its insecure, douche, bully, bottom culture. I will add entitlement to this list as well. Its just the nature of the beast and it always will be. All we can do is do better ourselves and help others when you can.
I was skiing at my local (where I grew up) a few weeks back and seen this dad and young son there skiing. Their kits were old snowmobile coats, gloves that didnt fit the boys hands, old, knitted beanies but they were having the most fun on the mountain. I was skiing with a lifelong friend, and he noticed me watching them. He asked, you're going to do something. I said, I am, watch this. I skied over and asked how they were doing and if they were having fun. The dad was a little sketched that some rando skied up to him and his kid, but his kid was super excited and said, "yes! I love skiing! This is my first time" It made me happy to hear that. His dad said he was just trying his hardest to stay up. I offered a few tips and told them it made me happy seeing them have fun. I noticed the boy wasnt wearing anything over his eyes, so I offered him my goggles. He was SO stoked about the offer and his dad tried to refuse but I insisted, I told them I would appreciate it more to see him enjoy them. I adjusted the strap to fit his head and helped put them on. He was beaming ear to ear and making some great turns by the time he reached the bottom. I smiled and waved good-bye as I had to go but I hope that dad and son make it back to skiing again as it is truly a great even magical thing. Its our job to help with that when we can.
