Moment Deathwish 104 in Europe Snow

Hey guys,

I bought a Line Optic 104 for a cheaper price (instead of the Pandora I was asking a question about) because it was a great deal and put 50 days on it the last 3 months.

I do like the damp feeling while still beeing playful but I often feel like the Optic is great for going fast and just blasting through everything or laying down carves on groomers but it does feel heavy and sometimes a bit “slow” to me when it comes to reacting fast and switching it up.

I’m really intrigued by the Deathwish 104 in size 184 as a replacement and know that its quite a different ski in a lot of regards. Would mount it with cast system to get in some fitness laps after skiing or to access some sidecountry when there is no fresh snow. The lighter weight would be a bonus for short tours but mainly because I want a quicker / more agile ski.
I do have a Black Crows Anima for deeper days.





I live in Europe and would like to use the Deathwish probably 50/50 on and off piste skiing for lower snow weeks. Also as a travel ski in Europe to do short tours and rip all kinds of conditions the deathwish sounds great. I got 2 concerns about it still:
- will the deathwish 104 feel hooky off piste and hard to ski?

- will it feel very harsh on firmer days especially offpiste / in inconsistent snow?


I am not super advanced but training quite hard and can confidently ski all kinds of conditions. I will get close to 100 ski days per season so my progress is quite good.

Could someone give me real world feedback on what the ideal conditions look for the DW104? I read that its great on hardpack etc - but how good does it ski off piste in variable and how easy is it to ski?

Nope they're American skis and won't be compatible with European snow hope this helps

No they shouldn't feel hooky off piste - if anything you may experience some weirdness adjusting to the triple camber on piste. They'll float well up to the conditions where you'd bring out your Anima, and also ski short for their length due to the rocker. They're relatively light so won't cut through inconsistent snow as well as a heavier/metal layup, but they'll do decently well and their strength is def in overall versatility. As a one-ski quiver for euro slopes I'd put it at the top of my list of Moment skis.

Good info in here already but ya sounds like a ski that would fit the bill for you. A lot of people love triple camber for the up hill since it gives a little more grip for the climb. It’s the stiffer build of the two deathwish so handles crud and chop fairly well. Really good in variable conditions. Floats decently well for a 104 as long as you keep your expectations in check. I personally have alpine bindings on mine but plenty of people use them for 50/50 use. The dwt 104 gets a lot of love too though, still really capable even for being a lighter touring ski. Do you have a moment dealer local to you? I’ve been told moments are a little harder to get I Europe and in cases not the most cost efficient option.

Only negative I would say is triple camber is very love or hate. Everyone I’ve let try either of my deathwishes either absolutely loved them or absolutely hated them. Typically I’d recommend demoing a deathwish prior to buying them. Especially in your case where you may pay a premium to get them.

for me personally they’re one of my cold dead hand skis I wouldn’t sell and in my top three favorite skis I own.

Thanks a lot for the detailed answer. Sounds just what I am looking for. There is one dealer in Europe who sells Moment skis and its quite expensive, but for me its worth it. Especially for a ski that I might be using 8/10 times all winter long.
