Replying to How to create local community as an outsider

cmaebrea:
Was my first season back after 4 seasons off. I’m 23 (unc status compared to all the middle and high schoolers). And I ride tow ropes in Minnesota. The local community was a total bummer. Only a dozen or so passionate skiers who basically always skied alone and only talked to each other. The younger trendy “core” chasers are obnoxious and cliquey. There are a few outliers as always and I had one-off seshes and convos with these people but they magically vanished and I haven’t seen them since. I feel like an outsider to current ski culture after going corporate and not skiing much in 4 years, I have no existing connections (old ski homies moved out west). I’m mid to upper-mid pack as far as skill goes so I don’t feel like I’m too bad to hang with the majority of the skiers on the hill.

My ultimate goal is to find life long friends through skiing (sounds gay but I’m trying to live a fulfilling life bro) and it doesn’t look like it is going to happen at Buck Hill. Is my hometown hill a lost cause? They are only a handful of riders my age is there a way to bring them together or join their secret cool guy group without looking like I’m begging for niche celebrity midwest ski-mo clout (I don’t even post clips)? Should I ride Trollhaugen? Should I ski east coast? Should I ski out west?

Looking for any take on this. Maybe the tight knit brotherhoods made from skiing I see on social media all the time just aren’t real.
