Just keep showing up, doing your thing, and make a little conversation with the other regulars you see there every time you go. Hype them up when they finally get a trick you watched them grind for hours on. Ask for tips from anyone who has a trick you don’t have locked. I met a lot of friends at pump tracks/skate parks biking in the summer doing this. Now every time I show up in the summer I see a familiar face and have people to session with. It’s a slow process but over a season it’s easy if you and others are showing up consistently. “Building a community” takes time and has to start with a solid group of friends (the “core” of the community) that is social and welcoming and pulls more people in, rather than the typical park crew that just cool guys everyone else and doesn’t interact.

I'm believe all of this. I used to be an outsider and still sorta am since I ski alone 98% of the time. I have a tough time with ski buddies as I'm way older than everyone, there are very few females and my park skills level is low.
But you gotta be there often, go to things, keep up with the areawide events and show up to everything you can. ( And come up to Troll! Saturday the 8th is Master Shredder -a great way to see people!)
Eventually you'll find new connections. Its taken me Years to build up mine.

Tow rope can be hard because its just so high paced. I ski at bush and Ive met so many homies just cause you have the chairlift to talk to new people. Getting peoples instagrams is a good place to start so you can meet up with peeps you meet on the hill

i'm old enough to have gone through about 6 rounds of making friends on the hill. here are a couple thoughts based on what you've said

- try to avoid thinking negatively about people. being in a bad mood while skiing sucks. it sucks worse if you go around thinking everyone is judging you poorly or talking shit about you (odds are, they aren't. they probably don't even know you exist)
- skill level doesn't really matter when lapping the park. i routinely ski with a group of homies and there are people doing everything from straight airs to no grab 5s to dub 10s. it's all about finding people that you like being around, irrespective of their bag of tricks.
- don't assume that showing up is enough. you really can't expect a group of riders to just roll up and invite you to be part of their crew. they have some bond between them that you simply don't have yet. you are going to have to approach people to make friends in most cases. be assertive and introduce yourself. once you do, i bet you'll be surprised how positively they respond
- little things go a long way. if you see someone do a trick you like, go up and give them props. it feels good to be validated and it feels even better to make someones day by expressing appreciation for their style or technique. if you are sincere, they'll pick up on that. one day, i had made muffins before going up to the hill. i wrapped half a dozen of said muffins in foil and put them in a box in my little backpack, which i stashed at the top of the park lift. after lapping with the crew for a couple hours, i asked if anyone wanted a treat. we'd all be shredding for ages without a break and when i busted out a muffin for everyone, you better believe they were stoked. it was a small, easy thing to do but it got a great response

i hope you can find some new friends to ride with, cause it is usually way more fun to be shredding together than alone!

This is all super on point. Especially the first part. Gotta switch that insecurity off. I really think 99% of all alleged cool guy experiences are just people being shy, high, or both.

Put yourself out there consistently. Build familiarity. Bring people up! Greet/acknowledge everyone. Even if ya don’t have much else to say- breaking the ice like that will let them know you aren’t cool guying them! It goes both ways ya know?
