You get the reach first. Then you ask for shit. Generally sponsorships are a buyer's market. You gotta have mad reach/influence/ability for anyone to want to pay you to ski

be one of the best skiers in your age range at your local.

Go in and introduce yourself to the guys at the shop. Try and build a friendly relationship with them and don’t just go asking for free stuff. (This may take months)

Once you are good/they think you’re a chill guy, it should naturally form into something - discounts on gear, free skis or introducing you to local reps.

don’t be afraid to ask for any of the above once you feel like the timing is right. Worst they can say is no but at least the seed is planted in their head.

Build up your web series, post regularly on your channel to try to get the view counts up. As it's been said, go to your local shop as much as you can, just to chill and bro down with the people there. Skiing is about skills but mainly visibility and who you know. For videos, remember that it's entertainement, doesn't always have to be about the best tricks, as long as the vibe is good and the video is entertaining to watch.



Also build up your instagram page if you have one for your crew. People's attention spam are mad short these days, and if they don't know you, they most likely won't click the link to watch the full cut, no matter how dope your video is.

I was lucky enough to get some brand support last season, but I kind of hate myself for it. Lowkey... they were just helping me out because my story is fucked up, not because my skiing is amazing. So I put aside any thoughts of brand support until my skiing can get something on its own merit. If you have a unique or fucked up story you might be able to leverage that into something, but you might end up feeling like you whored yourself out like I did if you don't feel like your skiing is good enough.

It doesn't bother some people I see on social media, not that I'm judging them for it, but I can't be that guy anymore.

This basically is how it goes now for 99% of people. The sponsorship game has changed drastically in sports like skiing, snowboarding, surfing, etc.

Some of the best athletes that throw the best tricks are struggling to get $$$ and gear because they don't give two fucks about social media.

But then you have purely social media (i.e. yt/ig/tiktok/etc) skiers that are kind of basic but getting PAID.

You want to get some brand support? You need lots of views or start to get really involved in the sport. Volunteering, possibly coaching, and anything else you can do to build relationships.

First you gotta be likeable. Be chill and talk to everybody, make lots of friends, don't be a dick. This is called networking. Being well known and well liked at your home hill is more likely to get you sponsored than posting a couple of videos. Next polish up your videos/photos/content whatever, and put them out consistently. Gain a following. If a company is going to give you a certain amount of $, then they expect you to get them at least that same amount of $ back in sales (they definitely want more). You won't make any sales for them if you don't have people watching your stuff. When you eventually grow your skills and gain a following, then you can start to seek out sponsors. Reach out to companies who's gear you already use and like. Don't just spam a copy pasted message to a bunch of random companies. Make it personal. Also, make a plan and follow through with it. Companies like when you have drive and can show them what you'll be working on and how it'll benefit them

For disclosure I'm nowhere near good enough to be sponsored, but I've gotten some skis 50% off and been able to acquire some free gear for me and the people I ride with.

From what I can tell it's a combination of the following:
1. you and/or your friends are quite good at skiing
2. you and/or your friends have something that differentiates you from others (ie the answer to the question Why give gear/money to you and not someone else)
3. your videos get a reasonable amount of traction on youtube/instagram/NS
4. you have some sort of relationship with someone who can help you out. Ex. someone you works at a shop and they can show the owner your videos and he's hyped on them

Don't think anyone necessarily has to meet all the requirements or excel in them to get free stuff but I feel like these are good guidelines.
