Val Thorens

I lived in Tignes 19/20 and sadly our spring fun was kinda wrecked by that whole covid thing. However, it's great that time of year (and all season). There's insane freeride in Tignes (Candide lives there atm), and both the Tignes and Val D parks are sick! Can't go wrong with the après scene in Tignes, Loop Bar etc. Got the Folie in Val D, but seeing as you're on NS I imagine that ain't your steeze.

VT is also sick with Meribel and Courchevel as part of the 3 valleys... but Tignes holds a special place in my heart.

There's heaps of other spots in the European mountains, you could also look to base yourself in Innsbruck and be in the centre of the Euro freeski scene and have SO many resorts to check out and have the benefit of city living re: accommodation/food prices.

OR you could go north and check out the Scandi countries, Åre Sessions was the best weeks (and biggest hangovers) of my 23/24 season and you've also got Riks like mentioned above and probably a heap of cool spots in Finland (Ruka!) and Norway to explore if you want to take the slightly less obvious route. Hell, I didn't even mention Switzerland... There's SO MUCH out there in terms of skiing.

Thanks for the help guys, I stayed up way too late researching these options, it looks like such a blast I can't wait. Probs leaning more toward France cuz I can read and speak it and might try and get some buddies to come too!

Hit up either and you can't go wrong. My personal preference is Tignes but probably more because I lived there than any kind of objective comparison.

Find yourself an AirBnB in either, with a balcony and halfway close to the shops/slopes/bars and fill it with buddies. Will be a blast. They all look something like this.

How does the off piste thing work? Do you need to take the same approach as touring , or can you review an avy report and if it’s green you are good to go ??

What are ski routes? Is that like mitigated freeride terrain ?

most Alps resorts are closed by April 20th, except for the glacier ones. Laax (mentioned earlier) is closed for sure.

Don't know much about Tignes and it's park, but I can tell you about Austrian ones: Stubai , Hintertux, Kaprun and Mölltaler will probably be the ones that are open. Kaprun is probably biggest and nicest park of them, Stubai and Molltaler are the smallest ones. Being on glaciers, half of the time the weather will suck - zero visibility, or even closed down for winds, but snow will be good. Hintertux and Stubai are close to Innsbruck, you can probably find cheaper accommodation there, plus nightlife etc. Mollertaller has cheaper tickets I beleive.

you can go wherever the fuck you want, some areas will very rarely be closed for avy risks, but most off-piste is at your own risk

Is everyone skiing off piste carrying beacon shovel and probe?
