Flying with Two Pairs of Skis

I'm going to be flying out of Boston to San Francisco to go skiing in Palisades in March. I grew up skiing in Palisades and am very well aware it could be really low coverage, so I would like to bring two pairs of skis Arv 94s and Wildcat 108s.

I might just be a dumbass, but I've done a decent amount of research and everything seems to conflicting or from a zero IQ reddit dipshit. I have a Moment Ski Roller Bag and ideally would like to fit all my ski gear & my boots into this bag. I feel like this should be achievable. My plan is to put the base of the Wildcat 108s on the bottom fill the bag with my clothes, gear, helmet and boots and then put my ARV 94s on top with the bases facing up.

I've seen people say putting your skis base in the bag without any cushioning is asking for the airline to snap the core in half from impact damage, but that just seems ridiculous.

Any advice on how to pack a ski bag? Anything wrong with my plan? Would appreciate a guide on how to pack a ski bag with two skis.

I zoomed in on that picture of your bag and there are already 2 pairs of skis in there. Just fly them like that. Go ahead and try to pad them with your clothes and stuff but TSA will 100% open your bag and rearrange stuff anyways. Packing clothes and stuff in those pockets will probably help. Skis are pretty tough and people fly with multiple pairs all the time so I wouldn't over think it too much

I would like to pack my boots and helmet in this bag as well. Last time I packed just my skis and had to carry my boots, it was a nightmare carrying that many bags.

You’d have to contact moment and get their opinion if you can fit the boots in there with the helmet. That might be a bit much. Clothes shouldn’t be an issue.

I’ve fondled the bag and it’s a decent size overall. Hard to imagine fitting two skis with boots and helmet plus clothes.

I personally just don’t trust soft sided bags when it comes to flying. I’ve seen and heard too many horror stories.

i use the hard side Sportube to travel with two skis. Fits both skis and poles without any issues. Can stuff some clothes in between the skis the way they stack as way. Absolutely no way I could fit boots or a helmet but I use a Sportube overhead boot backpack to carry on my boots.

Im confused on what you are asking. That bag easily fits everything you describe and you own it.....sooooo?

you literally posted the photo of it packed with two skis. What more do you want explained to you?


My only actual advice is don't put your helmet in there. It will probably get crushed. If you're worried about your bindings wrap your jacket around them.

I wrap them with a towel in the contact areas...tips, tails, bindings, using voile straps to secure. Make sure the bag is not overweight usually 50lbs or 25kg but check with your carrier. Also if you take a separate bootbag they often will treat the two like one bag because they are related sporting goods.

yeah separate ski and boot bag will count as one checked item. I don't get how carrying on a pair of boots is a big deal to you though considering the type of stuff I see at airports on the regular. My boots are custom fit for my feet so I worry it would not work out if my boots got left behind. Had Frontier fail to load my checked bags on a trip to CO and it was nice to have my own boots and just rent some skis on the way up

Bootbag, Carryon, Ski Bag, Personal Backpack. Last time it was brutal because I usally take a shuttle to the airport and this time I'm taking a shuttle to Palisades, but I guess its time to stop being a little b****, and get ready to carry me body weight in gear and clothes

I usually put like most of the clothes Im gonna be bringing in the ski bag so it can be storage and cushioning, then boots and helmet go in my carry on (just clip ur helmet to the outside of the bag)
