Heyall,

Anyone know if the plastic stiffness injected into the clog and cuff are different across the K2 FL3X range? I understand the tongue does most of the work, but I'm considering making a frankenboot out of a lightly used shell in my future and want to be sure. I'm trying to make those things stiffies, and I'll probably be looking for an alpine sole.

Also, does that KF model have the 130 tongue OEM or do you have to buy it after market to get it to that level of stiffness?

All the shell and cuffs are injected in the same material in the same stiffness. In a true 3-Piece (Cabrio) boot, the cuff is not locked to the shell so the cuff and the shell only give lateral stiffness and the forward flex is derived from the tongue. We keep the material blend consistent across all models so that the user can change the forward flex of any model and have a consistent lateral stiffness.

The KF is 120 this season and then we changed it to 130 for the 25/26 season. So if you buy this seasons model you would need to grab a 130 tongue if that is what you are after.

Nice! Are those 130 flex tounges as stiff as those tounges that Bode Miller had made a few years ago?

No those things were stupid. Kind of defeated the point of the linear flex you get from the boots as the tongue was so stiff you got basically no movement anyway. I mean maybe he did at race speeds but I could not even move the things.

Taking progressiveness into consideration. How do the new 130 FL3X tounges compare to the 130 /140 flex the new Cortex collection?

I find it really hard to compare an overlap and linear boot as they feel so different. To me the 100 flex FL3X tongue feels initially stiffer than many 120 boots but the difference is that 100 tongue is that flex throughout the range while the 120 eventually gets stiffer. So I dont think its best to compare them flex wise and instead just figure out the type of flex you want and from there work out what flex within that style will work. 130 tongues in Fl3X boots are pretty stiff though I don't personally go above 120 and I ski only 130 and above generally in overlap.
