Been deliberating for days now so I am once again turning for help.
Little backstory: I haven't constantly ridden any under 108mm skis for a lot of years now. Most of the time I ski on3p Kartel or Jeff 108 and if there is any new snow I ride 118s.
This last year I had some bad injuries, got surgery, and sold all my skis besides my 118s. Been easing back into skiing the last few weeks as I'm nearing the end of recovery. Think I'll start skiing park again this week.
I'm not throwing anything too crazy but I want something easier for rails & spins and just more fun all around. Plus stiff skis/boots have wrecked the peroneal tendon in my leg. Pain comes back every year and the only think that makes it feel better (besides not skiing) is softer skis and better fitting boots.
I want something soft but not crazy soft like wets or blends. Definitely something lightweight that is better on rails and for spins.
The other issue is I'm a little over 6ft 3 (191cm) so there are limited options for me in the playful park ski category around 100-105mm underfoot. I want something at least 186cm (and I know a lot of brands measure short).
OPTION 1
I can get a really good deal right now on this year's reckoner 102s in 191
(I know they aren't that durable but I can't look past it cause of the discount)
Pros: 102 is the ideal waist wide IMO, Lightweight, & the bases looks really sick
Cons: I skied the 112s from last year for a few runs and they have less early rise and more camber and seem to ski a lot longer and feel less spry than my 191 ON3Ps that I'm used to.
OPTION 2
Also good deal on last years Icelandic nomad 95 in 191 (which I am assuming measures more like 188)
Pros: Seems like they have the perfect flex and the perfect size (188)
Cons: I know I am desensitized, but 95 width just seems sooo narrow to me. I'm mostly going to be using this in the park and when it hasn't snowed in a few days but there will still those days when a rope drops and I'll have to take them in the powder and hit some cliffs etc etc
Overall:
My biggest worry here is that the the nomads are too thin and the reckoners are too floppy to hit big jumps into powder and stomp the occasional decent cliff. I'll definitely be building some backcountry jumps trying to learn a few new tricks this year. Will 95mm be chill for landing in deep powder?
I'm sure this is obvious for many of you but besides clipping into a homie's skis once or twice I legit haven't been on skis like this since I was a kid and don't know what it'll feel like.
