I am looking into getting a new ski for next season. I am 6’0”, 160 lbs 32 years old. I ski at Bachy, so the majority of my skiing is side-hits, trees and some park. I have skied the following skis in the past years and I’ll provide my thoughts on the skis to give some reference on my preferences. I am looking to have one pair of skis for more snow (Pretty set on the season forma), and am looking at getting another pair for the rest of the days on hill. I don’t have a concrete budget but am looking for a good deal in general if I can find one.
Line Blade Optic 104 - good ski while it lasted, I liked the ability of this ski to cut through the PNW crud and handle the bumpy runout when skiing the bachelor cornice. Good performance on groomers and hard pack. Destroyed these skis within 30-40 days hitting a rock on the cornice runout. The things I didn’t like about this ski - felt like there was significant hinge points on the ski, especially the tails
Volkl Mantra 102 - good for hard pack days, felt like a dad ski and very boring. Gave these back to my dad where they belong
Season Pass - my favorite ski at the moment. I love the sidecut and camber, overall a very fun ski, but it feels too soft when I’m charging. I am going to replace these with the Forma as my powder and 50/50 touring ski.
K2 Poacher - Good durable ski, able to ski the crud on these but they are not a super fun ski on the groomers or super hard pack days. They just feel a bit dead overall. Great in the park but it feels like that’s the only place I enjoy riding them.
I have also tried some of my friends skis occasionally.
Blizzard Rustler - too boring, too stiff? Not sure why but I didn’t enjoy these
Moment Bibby- fun ski but more of a pow ski which I already have
Atomic Bent 110 - fun ski but not great at charging
skis I am considering and would like input on if anyone has experience with them.
ON3P Jeff 100 or 108 - haven’t had the opportunity to ski any ON3Ps. But would like to support this company as it’s local and I enjoy their vids etc. seems stiff enough to charge but surfy enough to match the terrain at Bachy.
Surface Upper - I like the shape of this and the camber, haven’t ever skied on surfaces, some claims of poor durability. Would they be damp enough for PNW wetpow?
Faction Dancer 3 - found a great deal on these, specs look like they’d work well but just don’t have any experience with this ski. Also the name is fucking stupid
4FRNT Dev - not sure what to say here but they look like a decent option
Volkl Revolt 104 - have had my eye on these for a while, I like most volkls that I’ve skied. Good price and seems like it could do what I want but might end up feeling like the hard pack performance is lacking.
Atomic Maverick
Sender Free 110 - very popular ski, more expensive, I’m not a fan of Rossi historically but that’s just my own bias
If I had to pick three that I’m most interested in they would be - 1) surface upper, 2) faction dancer 3 and 3) ON3Ps
any thoughts or experiences with these skis?
