Do k2 catamarans ski groomers as well as the roofbox claimed

They are very, very floppy and aren't torsionally stiff either. On soft groomers you can make em rail. On ice they are borderline terrifying. I rode em as a daily for a while but that was pre knee surgery and desk job (i got fat)

FruitBootProsee title, i got a really good offer on a pair but i've heard mixed reviews. Always been curious about them. Tom Pietrowski said in his Roofbox review that they ski groomers really well for any freestyle ski, but Blister disagrees. What have you guys experienced?

Who's opinions do you respect more? A product expert with roots in the freestyle scene or a bunch of blowhards who write 5000 words on ski weight, busting crud, and Scotch? I assume if you align closer to the latter group you'd be on TGR and not here?

They carve surprisingly well for what they are. They're pretty chattery and sketchy on anything really firm though.

Thinking back I still do think they carve really well for such a wide ski but like has been mentioned here that is on generally slightly softer groomers. If you are trying to ski them on super hard packed snow then no they will struggle a bit but if that is the conditions I would doubt you would be out on a big pow ski anyway. They are still one of my fav pow skis though as they are so versatile. My new pow ski, the crescendo, is amazing in pow but is nowhere near as good out of the deep stuff.

No matter who's saying it, I'll take any claim about a ski with a grain of salt until I hear the same thing from multiple people.

They’re fiiine on groomers. Not great though, and I can think of a lot of skis in that waist width and class that are better. That said, they’re still the funnest ski to noodle, jib, and slash around that I’ve ever been on. Wish I still had my pair!

As far as reviews go, I think it’s a good reminder that the reviewer matters more than the outlet they review for. Learn about the reviewer, how they ski, what they like and dislike, and how that compares to your own experience. Blister does a good job of giving you that context, but some criticisms of their style are valid.


For context, I wrote the Blister review of the Cat. I’ve also reviewed for Powder and NS. I stand by what I said back then, but I still don’t drink whiskey.

Luke and Dylan at blister are great skiers I would agree blister can someone’s get a bit too into themselves but if you can read through it there is some good info to be had for sure. And there blister summit is a great event.

If they're much like their predecessor, the Pettitors, you can ski groomers decently on them for what they are - a super wide ski extremely playful ski.

I liked the pettitors way more than the catamarans. The pettitor just felt more like a park ski that was scaled up to ride powder, which is what i like. The catamarans felt more like a softer powder ski to me. The pettitor is probably less practical and have less floatation, but it felt more interesting to ride. Riding groomers is better on the catamarans though, not gonna lie.
