Starting skiing as a snowboarder

I’ve been snowboarding for a while now but I’m lwk thinking of trying to start skiing this szn jst to try new things. Any advice for making the switch? Like what should I expect, and are there any tips to avoid losing all my steez? How easily do tricks transition over? I’m 5,4 and Ima be borrowing 138 secondhand skis from a friend for a bit. Ik they are hella small but idk if they’re gonna make things more difficult.

138 like 138 cm long? That would make it hella difficult to ski normally let alone hit tricks. If you can get it done props to you but you might wanna get some actual skis around 160-180 to get better.

Can yo borrow aome boots from him or another friemd too? Honestly it's fun just to get out and fuck around. I suck ass at skiing now but it's fun everytime I go out. I love the mini parks.

I know people will advise getting this or that but if you have access to stuff rock it for a bit and see what you think.

Tricks don't really transfew. I guess there's similarities but def feels different.

Jump tricks will definitely transfer ive seen enough people on switch day do em, rails are super different tho but the balance will be there

I snowboarded for almost 10 years and then switched to skiing like 2 years ago (I needed a new board so I was like fuck it I’m gonna buy skis). I learned to S turn down a green the first day and then I could do blues easily by day 3. It’s a quick adjustment, I can do more tricks on skis already than I could on my board. One of the reasons that I switched to skiing is cause I could not imagine myself eventually becoming a grandma that snowboards that shit would be fucked up lol

Do both it's fun! I'm a skier that picked up boarding on the side so kinda the opposite. Spins on skis are much easier because you initiate them from a more natural position. Rails and boxes will feel pretty weird since you have two extra edges to worry about. Butter-type stuff is way more natural on a board (one of my favourite things about the single plank).

Don't let lack of steeze stop you just get out there and eat a bunch of snow and have fun!

the skis go up a little past my shoulders which doesn't seem terrible based off a lil research. I might not be right but either way I'll try it and hopefully it doesn't end up terrible.

Invest enough to get some used boots that fit as good (if not better) than rentals, and get a cheap pair of new or used skis and bindings that are within your size range. Only invest as much money in the beginning as you would be comfortable gambling with- if you find yourself not liking it youll be happy you bought just the bare minimum. And if you really like it, go all in next year with new gear and you’ll really appreciate the difference.

As someone who does both, the hardest part about the transition is how different it feels facing straight down the mountain and turning with 4 edges instead of 2. I have a bad gage for how hard it is to adjust to since I have played hockey my whole life and skied before I started snowboarding. However, I find landing a little easier on skis since it is a little more natural. The tricks transfer to some degree once you get used to the differences in the landing. Also, depending on your height and weight 138 skis might be unstable and a little more difficult to learn on.
