You’re on the one behind and you see the chair in front of you sliding back towards you. You jumping off? Likely hurt legs or back from the fall. Or likely hurt legs and face from the chair slamming into you.

if you had the reaction time, speed, and space then the call is to unclick and get your feet up within the frame of the chair and throw the bar down. huge ask for an unsuspected event. chairs probably halfway to you before you realize whats going on much less make a plan. fuck jumping though. much rather have a crushed leg injury than a compressed back/spinal fusion.

if your on the front chair all of a sudden sliding back, probably gonna get bucked without the bar down. my guess is the severity of these injuries were all made worse due to having the bar up but total shot in the dark there.

i doubt the rope tow extremists could plot such intricate attacks. its much more likely that there is a silent civil war going on between skiings 2 mega corps. vail resorts clearly sabotaged the gondi at alterras WP and the axis powers of alterra retaliated by disabling a chair in heavenly. interested to see how powdr and boyne reply. everyones talkin about world war 3 but they aren’t ready for world war ski!! i hear alterra is paying PC patrol union to hold ground and weaken PC as they plan their next attack.

I was in chairlift in Åre ones and it kept stopping all the time but after a while we finally got off and directly after it stopped and they said that they needed to evacuate the lift so we was pretty lucky idk how they evacuate if they climb down a rope maybe

Yes, at a small resort anyway, ski patrol has this contraption where they toss a rope with a weight on the end up and over the chair cable . They send up this little board on the rope, you scoot off the chair onto it and they lower you down. One by one , it's a long process.

( When I was snowmaking a couple seasons ago we got called over to a lift to help with an evacuation)

I'm staying on the chair because that's gonna be an absolutely massive payday when I lawyer-up after.

But for real with these recent chairlift/gondola incidents, for me it begs the question of when do ski resorts begin getting investigated more for things like that and negligence. Human error on maintenance checks, sure. It happens. But what about also management/corporate cutting corners to try and get things open to increase skier numbers and forcing mechanics/lift ops to bypass usual inspections either to make more money or to save money on labor budgets?
