Vishnu Wide Plus is a great touring ski

It's wide enough for mid-deep snow and most terrain, short turning radius, stiff enough to still be responsive and supportive, soft enough to be able to have fun with. Cambered enough get good skin contact with the snow, and also pretty lightweight.

Like, I wouldn't ask for much more in a touring ski

its a hard truth for both the core nuts and skimo bros but its the word

I can also put touring bindings on a set of race skis doesnt mean its a good idea.

Do you find it annoying touring on a center mount symmetrical ski? That’s what bothered me about touring on wets. I like it when the front of the ski has some weight to it so it keeps contact with the snow rather than lifting up

Be bold, go full pin setup if you have spare wides. Vishnus are so light that it kinda makes sense to go for a proper touring setup. ATK freeraiders if you’re feeling flush.

My experience has been that you think your touring setup is dope until you upgrade and then you realize your last setup was complete dogshit lol. It’s happened to me twice now. Not saying you shouldn’t be stoked on the Vs but I bet there are levels of comfort and ease that you still haven’t tapped into yet

Why would you do that? There are so many better options that will ski the terrain better, be lighter, and just more fun overall for a touring setup.

I like really rockered skis. My favorite ski is the 4frnt dev, but it doesn't make sense to turn that into a dedicated touring ski because it has zero camber. Idk I've never ridden a wide plus but reviews and stuff make it sound light and heavily rockered with a bit of camber. V's are also a lot cheaper than like an on3p or moment touring layup

1900g isn’t light, if you are looking for a wider touring ski that’s gonna be in that class but actually halfway light just get a bent 110. The devastator is super heavy, but the 4frnt raven is a sick touring ski around that 105ish underfoot (it’s a flat to full rocker ski). Just do some reading there are tons of brands out there that make better skis that make more sense than a Vishnu wide.
Keep in mind conditions in backcountry are all over the place so having a stiffer ski with more camber and slightly less rocker is a good thint, and brands have been making actually exciting touring focused skis in the past few years.

yeah, my next touring setup will most likely be super lightweight as I've been climbing more technical routes, and honestly, skiing is just a quicker and more fun descent. that being said, if I had the money I'd def rock a wide+ in the backcountry. Rn I'm saving up for a set of ice tools because climbing ice in the winter is too sketch with one ice axe

Saw someone selling some wides with pin bindings some years ago, it got me feeling disgusted and horny at the same time. It probably works better than i think.
