freewillieWould you rather live in Seattle and ski Crystal mtn and other Seattle area resorts (~1.5hr drive) or live in the SF Bay Area and ski Palisades and other Tahoe area resorts (3.5hr drive, but have a place to stay the weekend etc)? Consider touring too, please.
CaseyThere’s a sizable chunk of people that move to Washington that just really don’t like it. I always say like no ones from here anymore, but indoor cats would probably be better suited in California if you know what I mean
Non_State_ActorThe Bay to Palisades is a pretty long trip. If you live in the East Bay you might be able to make it to Kirkwood in under 3 hours but it's a trek. Are you in tech?
freewillieYep, here in the bay for work. Originally from Washington, love Washington. Having fun in the Bay Area tho too, and I love t visiting the Tahoe area.
Thing is at this point, I’m never going to be a professional skier, but I’m pretty good at what I do for work now.
to any kids reading this, my advice to you is: start throwing quads asap so you don’t need to make these shit ass priority calls in the future
bennwithtwonsits not much shorter of a drive, but why not shred kirkwood? compared to pali, it is dead quiet, often gets more snow and has sick terrain. the après scene isn't going to be as bangin but if you're primarily interested in the skiing, it is hard to beat.
partyandBSi do not know what you mean by that indoor cats line lol.
but i will second that moving somewhere should include more than just ski proximity which i imagine OP is already considering. but seattle sucks. it rains and is cloudy so fuckin much. and theres a shit ton of herion there. SF and the bay area way more fun to me. but the biggest city i’ve ever lived in was breck lol.
theabortionatorYeah, nobody does drugs in the bay

CaseyI mean it’s 40 degrees, dark, windy and raining sideways for 8 months a year people that aren’t built for that get depressed AF in the PNW. Also Crystal is higher than most WA ski areas but not immune to rapid temperature swings following storms. Snow, melt, refreeze, rain melt refreeze while everyone sits around for it to snow again because conditions bounce between great and completely fucked every week. And then like every 15th winter it just barely snows at all and no one can open.
Non_State_ActorWhat part of the Bay Area? Do you have a place to stay up there? Can you "work remote" for part of the week?
freewillieI live in Oakland. Yes can work remote for part of the week and yes I have a spot to stay up there. An important clarification is- day trips in Seattle, weekends or longer in Tahoe area.
which would you rather?
partyandBSwhat about sacremento? its closer to tahoe but i know nothing about it lol.
michael_bcHaving a place to stay over the weekend beats being a day tourist. It's a significant bump in quality of life.
I tried it all. The difference is night and day. You miss out on all the socials if you have to drive back after skiing. Day trips make you feel like a visitor, and this gets incredibly tiring after a few seasons.
