Officially on the move (Maui Bound)

Well folks its happening, my girlfriend and I (Who was born and raised on Maui) are moving over to the Island from Portland, OR. I have moved ALOT in my life but this feels pretty dang big. I'm super excited but couldn't lie if I was not scared, I'm nervous about being so far away from the mountains.. granted I'm old and washed now so I only get to ski about 5 times a year if I'm lucky BUT never been farther then an hour from a ski hill in my entire life. Def going to get into spear fishing and try our surfing but anyone live over in HI? Would love to connect with some NS'ers our there, plan on building a backyard setup in time on my girlfriends families land but could take some time. Were moving towards the end of February let me know if anyone is interested in learning about the logistics of moving from the mainland over to HI. (Also if anyone has experience shipping cars overseas would love your insight.)

Do You have an extremely special vehicle? Otherwise if you're not affiliated with the military, and thus shipping a car on tax payer dime, it will be cost prohibitive, just get a used Tacoma.

I almost moved to Oahu when I was 20 but didn't pull the trigger.

Are you going to ski on Haleakala or what?

Maui is beautiful. I lived in Oahu but spent a lot of time in Maui including the past few years. You’ll have mountains to hike and tons of outdoor life.

Spear fishing is huge over there, Just watch out for the tiger sharks. They’ll steal the fish right off your waist. If you’re not certified to dive do it. There’s great diving all over the islands.

make sure you hit up Maui brewing. There main brewery is on the island and it’s a super chill place to hang out and they a lot of beers not available anywhere but at the brewery itself. They host sole solid food truck events there as well.

definitely hit up the road to Hana. It’s just an amazing time. And living there you’ll have tons of time to do little chunks at a time and stop to do all the hikes along the way. Some of the best waterfalls are located on that drive.

Gonna be living right at the base of Haleakala actually, and we are gonna be shipping two Subarus over, I have been thinking about selling the Subaru here and buying a Toyota when I’m out there.

Fell in love with Mahalo-ale works last time I was their as it’s more upcountry where my girlfriends family lives, really stoked to start fishing and diving should be a blast
