Ski Size

My current skis are 171cm but im 177cm (155lbs) without ski boots on. They are armada arv's. Should i size up?

Probably. How are we supposed to tell you with how little information you provided? Do your ARVs feel short? Do they not float well enough in powder? Do they not feel stable enough? Do they feel plenty maneuverable? If you answered "yes" to most, then yes, you should probably be on a longer ski.

Using an open forum format to ask all of your questions isn't the best way to get good information. Go to a ski shop and talk to a homie who works there. They will be more qualified to answer all of your questions than any idiot with an NS account. A lot of us have been skiing for a very long time and may know the answers, but you'll waste so much more time than if you just asked a professional for free in person.

That being said, it's always good to ask questions and learn about what you're buying. It's a great approach for life.

Respectfully, I wouldn't buy anything from any of my local ski shops based on their 'knowledge'

I wouldn't buy anything recommend by 'assholebomber22' either tho, so you're not exactly wrong either

Yeah but the guys at the ski shop have a way better chance of knowing what ski size you should be on than a random user on NS. And if you're in the position where you don't know what size to buy, they almost certainly know more than you

Basically every ski company will have a chart that says what length the recommend for your height weight and ability. Its a pretty safe bet to stick to this. Nobody can tell you if you want wish your skis were longer. Think about the kind of skiing your doing.
Also totally depends on the ski your getting, are you getting another pair of ARVs or something lese? some skis run short some run long. some skis feel longer or shorter then they actually are.

Personally I think its not that deep. I'm 180cm and like 175 lbs. my skis are 170. I should defiantly be on longer skis but I still have a blast.

try to demo some longer skis or try a friends skis. see if you like it

General rule of thumb is chin height for beginners to just over head high the more advanced you are. There are a lot of variables here, too. If a ski has a lot of rocker, it has a shorter effective edge which will make the ski behave like it is shorter than it actually is. If a ski is softer, you may be able to get away with a longer size. If you are going to be laying in GS turns or hucking massive cliffs, go slightly longer. If you are buying touring skis go a little shorter.

I'm 6'4 tall and ski anywhere from 189-195s. My cousin is like 5'9 and skis 186s. Another 5'9 friend has a range of 177-184.

If you aren't sure, look at a size chart or talk to a local shop. The more you ski and the better you get the more of a feel for length you get

Your length ± 10 cm is fine. Depends on what you want to do with them. Shorter is more playful, longer is more stable. Either way is fun. I think width, shape, and stiffness have a much bigger impact than a few cm on each side.

The best skis are the ones you have.

If you want to be sure, go to a rental and try some sizes.
