skied for the first time this season yesterday, and holy shit I am out of shape. after the first run, I knew I was not about to last the whole day. still a sick day tho getting back together with the ski fellas. we found a mouse and named him Gerald. It doesn't help that my first day back was a pow day. do I just spam squats and leg extensions to get back In shape?
me fuckin too, spent 8 hours at Troll on Saturday and I'm still so chopped from it...
like the first hour was so rough for me with warm up, had like 3-4 good hours, then the rest was basically just survival mode until the homies were all ready to go.
I need to go to the gym and get my ass back in shape so I can ski fr
Leg blasters are always a good one, used to do those for a few months pre-season. Now that I'm regularly at the gym all year I just do squats and lunges (alternating days) as part of my routine.
Also get single leg variations like Bulgarian squats, lunges. Add box jump, with single leg as well. Power cleans and deadlifts have been beneficial as well.
I started bosu ball workouts and it has been huge for me in balance/stability.
First year I took pre season conditioning seriously and showed. First day back was a breeze and already feel like I am where I was at last season.
Easy mode: Ride a bike up every uphill you have access too. Try to clock over 10 miles each time and you’ll be good.. although your upper half will still be fat just a heads up.
ski more, for summertime this year I did bike and run, and not as much heavy squats in the gym. Cardio matters more than leg strength IMO for skiing, but you need both. Best 'in shape-edness' I've started the season
So many ways to do it. But even a light workout routine will help to activate the muscles, when you don't use them they go dormant so just do literally anything you have access to, running, lifting, skiing, burpees etc. Build a hike park in your yard with PVC is honestly my fav way, even just one rail. spend a few hours drinking beers and hikin it with the fellas.
I already work out pretty avidly, because I'm a baseball player, idk I guess just the certain muscles that I use for skiing got hit for the first time in a while
Honestly i rarely work out but my job is quite physical…and mentally straining but besides that activity, going to the mountain and skiing until pure pain is starting to pay off for me. Im already skiing 30 1.5k vert. runs a day and its only day 6 which is unheard of for me. This was usually a spring benchmark but is paying off lots. While falling is a good thing for learning, also is strength. Will only further help to boost confidence gaining it on the mountain.
