How do i get my gf into skiing

I want her to ski with me but she doesn’t know how and I don’t know how to teach her. She doesn’t want to do lessons either. How do I teach her?

Hi this is a common problem! To get her into skis you have to do these steps!

1. take her to the mountain
2. get her to put ski boots on
3. clip them into her skis

and that’s all !

Just get into doing Nordic together, so much cheaper, warmer, healthier, and you’re still skiing. Then you can go shred without her it’s ok to have separate hobbies

So my girl was a snowboarder before transitioning to skiing. Luckily for me, she was an excellent figure skater growing up, so she picked it up and progressed very naturally, understanding both edge control from SB and muscle memory from skating...

Be warned - this could potentially be a psychological battle. Is she ultra competitive? Will she stress out at the top of steeps? Will she flip her shit if you ski too far in front of her? Too many things to list, but the point is tread lightly. Be VERY aware of how terminology, your tone, your support, etc. is all coming outta your mouth. lol. Newschoolers is no place for relationship advice but I'm just sayin....

I refer al my friends to Stomp It Tutorials on Youtube. She can either watch herself or you steal all his tips, terms, and progression.

I'd say bring her to a bunny hill and start off with the basics. You can go to a ski swap and check out what they have for cheap get some decent gear that's affordable. My GFs friend went and got skis and boots for $140. Then just spend some time on the bunny hill. I've tought 2 of my exs to ski and it's pretty fun and they enjoy it, that being said it can be frustrating for both parties there will probably-definitely be crying but it's fun the Nordic idea sounds like alot more fun and you can still rip with the homies sometimes skiing with the GF can be less fun then you think but good luck dont over think it! Hopefully she enjoys it!

I would spring for one of those progressive lesson programs that ‘guarantees’ you will lean to make turns. I’ve seen some advertised that include lessons and then a reward of more lift access after a few lessons kind of thing. Go ski while she is in lessons and after have her show you what she learned. Then cut the day short for your date by the fire or whatever

Only take her if she really wants to go.
As others have said there will be crying.
You have to realize that you may end up spending the rest of your season, up to the rest of your life relegated to greens and blues.
Depending on her age and mentality, she may never care for park.
Don't be a dick and leave her to ski with your friends or by yourself.

If you are cool with that risk just watch some level 1 and 2 ski training videos on YouTube and recite it to her with examples (you have to be able to ski to do this). Patience is key, good luck.

Have her watch pro women skiers to get some inspiration for types of skiing. She may prefer park or big mountain, starting the learning curve with a goal will help her stay motivated

Stomp it tutorials is hands down the best free resource for beginners. My wife and I both learned by watching a lot of their content and intentionally applying it on the hill

Keep it fun, patience wears down quick with loved ones and you don't want her frustration with learning to be directed at you just bc you're trying to give pointers

If she doesn't want to get actual lessons, think very carefully about what you want. Skiing, and teaching skiing, are two separate skills. Just because you can ski doesn't mean that you'll be able to explain what you're doing in a way that she will be able to understand, and repeat. If yall are serious, and looking at a long term relationship, you could think about doing your instructor certification. That'll give you the skills to teach her in a way thats not going to be frustrating for both of you.

My fiance boards, tried to get her skiing but lasted 4 sessions lol.

Just get her comfortable, really stress lessons, have patience etc… She might never be a ripper but that is ok, also good to have separate hobbies if she hates it.

I am pretty lucky as she doesn’t mind if I take a few laps solo, she just chills at a lodge or just stays back. Also helps if she has some friends in similar skill levels/new to skiing.

My SO grew up skiing, so there wasn’t a lot for me to really teach her except I realized in hindsight that all ability level aside, most women do not want to just a tag along on your crew of guys ski days. I’ve skied with women in groups plenty but when it comes to relationships the expectations are pretty different in terms of how the day goes.
