NS Gear Guide 24-25 rant

What is the point of the gear guide if all the information about either the skis or boots is just copied and pasted from the manufactures website. I would love to actually read some proper reviews about skis I haven't skied before and that I am interested in buying but whats the point when the information that is posted on the "Gear Guide" is not even written by anyone outside of the manufactures HQ.

Makes me wonder if the "testers" even test the "niche brands" that are listed in the gear guide. Would be nice to see some proper reviews on the Surface, fat-ypus and 4frnt ski range, just to name a few. I guess I'll head over to TGR where people actually talk about skis and gear in detail and they aren't getting paid for biased reviews.

I haven't been on NS for a while but I have been doing some digging around the gear guides and they all read the exact same and they basically have the sets of same skis in them. I would have thought with newschoolers becoming independent, things were going to change.

Seems like an extremely lazy attempt to reach "yearly goals" set out by newschoolers.

Roofbox reviews are the good shit. Gear guide is just showing you what stuff there is.

This is a super tiny niche skiing website, the fact that they do real gear reviews aka roofbox reviews on 8 skis a year is pretty impressive. If you have a question about a ski just ask, if you want to read about minutae check out blister review, if you want factual information look at soothski.com, if you want to rant there's a thread for that too.

Hahaha, yea I understand that, but they shouldn't be advertising reviews about products when they don't write anything about them. I also get that there is only a few people actually participating in the reviews but 8 in-depth reviews a year even though they are spread across 5-6 people?

I mean I feel like it's not hard to find information on skis. More niche brands are less common to review because they're niche. It's not like these guys have free access to all skis for enough time to give a detailed review. Besides I feel like the good part about this website is that you can make a post asking about a specific ski and there's gonna be somebody around who's got experience on it

TGR and Blister are some much better when it comes to gear. Only thing I would ask here is how to fix rail damage.

To me it feels like Roofbox reviews are the same. "This ski skis groomers well for it's width" "This ski skis powder quite good because of its shape" "park is really where this ski shines" "We didn't really get to test the durability of these skis yet". With few extra words between these lines your review is ready. I'll give them props for being only ones to make actual park ski reviews.

Of course, they also don't have a ski season to just review skis like ski essentials. They do have a life outside the slopes and I understand that. But being a smaller ski community, it would be nice if the reviews steered away from the pack and focused on skis that haven't been reviewed by the masses.
