SeanthebeanI bought a pair of used boots that was in great condition (2015 atomic Hawk magna 1.0 100x) and just realized they aren’t gw. How much would it cost to get grip walk soles put on and is it worth it? Or should I just cut my losses and buy a newer boot?
KilaTsunamiGripwalk isn’t essential, only time you absolutely have to switch is when you have a GW boot but your bindings aren’t GW compatible. Non GW works just fine with GW bindings.
mikemKila knows more than me but i rock gripwalk heel and Alpine toes because of non-gripwalk and gripwalk pivots. Idk if it’s a problem. Seems to work.

SeanthebeanOh sick, I thought I had to either replace the sole or buy new boots. Both of which suck since ski season is upon us.
KilaTsunamiNo way really? I never thought of doing that Does it test right/will a shop actually sign off on it?
onenerdykidGripWalk (ISO 23223) is not just a difference in toe shape, there is a difference in heel shape too. There are subtle changes in certain aspects that are always different vs. ISO 5355 and because of the possible dimension range allowed by GW, there can be bigger changes.
KilaTsunamiSuch a pain in the ass to deal with on the retail side. Not only do you have to tell the customer their new boots aren't compatible with their current bindings, but then you have to tell them they need to wait while we order the fuckin part lol
onenerdykidIt can definitely be a pain in the ass, but at least there are backwards compatible solutions available (i.e. having 5355 soles that can be ordered/put onto the boot). All of these parts are available and often in the main catalog, and should be to some extent stocked by shops in order to solve compatibility problems in a timely manner.
You don't get the same type of backwards compatibility in other industries, like bike for example. Given how often "standards" change in the bike industry it can often be impossible that older wheels, an older crankset, bottom bracket, headset, etc. work with new frames.
driftsThey are like $30 just put them in the box, I'm already buying a $1000 boot, I don't want to have to go back and forth with some stoned kid at a ski shop for two weeks just to get ski boot parts ordered
