I need to take off this heel piece to fix it, right?
My Pivot's heel piece brake mechanism broke and while I can ski them, the brakes won't deploy and I worry about it affecting the release behavior. There's a little metal piece under this plate that popped out of the rivet and is a little bent. There's also plastic missing that keeps the spring in place. I tried for a while to get it together without taking the binding off, but no luck. Any advice or do I need to take these off to fix it? I really do not want to remount because these skis are mounted perfectly. Are helicoils trustworthy when I butter a lot?
Yea unfortunately you gotta take the whole binding off. If they’re symmetrical you could always remount the ski backwards. We actually just did this to a beat up wet today at the shop lol
That might be too much broken plastic but I’ve had that happen before through finding a way to pry the plastic plate over that metal part and having it just stay in place. Was not easy but is sometimes doable. Might need to take that apart.
actually you can take off just the back 2 screws, then take off half-moon, then you will see the brake spring. Try adjusting with a screwdriver, maybe it will work
I think i was able to fix this problem without taking the binding off. I think put the ski in a vice then loop parachord around the wire teardrop then figure out a way to ratchet it back then slide in plastic.
why are you scared of just unscrewing the heels and then putting them back ? on3ps have a nice solid core so unless you strip the holes theres no reason you cant just put a little wood glue in the hole and screw them back in
A ski tech i know said he used some steel wool and strong wood glue to make the old holes stronger. He said it worked quite well. I believe it can do some damage to the screws long term, but i am not sure.
