I need to take off this heel piece to fix it, right?

Yea unfortunately you gotta take the whole binding off. If they’re symmetrical you could always remount the ski backwards. We actually just did this to a beat up wet today at the shop lol

would have to take them off and replace the baseplate.

That might be too much broken plastic but I’ve had that happen before through finding a way to pry the plastic plate over that metal part and having it just stay in place. Was not easy but is sometimes doable. Might need to take that apart.

You can take them off and put them right back in the same holes without helicoils. Just don't strip it, 4nm no more no less.
Repair and replace.

actually you can take off just the back 2 screws, then take off half-moon, then you will see the brake spring. Try adjusting with a screwdriver, maybe it will work

I think i was able to fix this problem without taking the binding off. I think put the ski in a vice then loop parachord around the wire teardrop then figure out a way to ratchet it back then slide in plastic.

why are you scared of just unscrewing the heels and then putting them back ? on3ps have a nice solid core so unless you strip the holes theres no reason you cant just put a little wood glue in the hole and screw them back in

A ski tech i know said he used some steel wool and strong wood glue to make the old holes stronger. He said it worked quite well. I believe it can do some damage to the screws long term, but i am not sure.

Don’t epoxy the screws in unless the holes are fucked. If the screw holes are fucked you can do the steel wool and epoxy but would really suggest not doing that and just putting binding freedom or quiver killer inserts in instead if that’s the case.


Go get some water resistant wood glue, it’s just to keep water out of the core not to hold the screws in.

Hey man that sucks that that happened to your pivots! I know they come with certain frustrations at times but it is the binding that will stand the test of time over everything and if you learn a thing or two they are pretty easy to replace parts of.

You are missing a plastic piece where the loop of the spring that is out of place goes, that sits under the brake. You can see it in the first photo that its there and that it is missing on the one you have an issue with. I have just those plastic pieces that i could just send you, but i live in Sweden. I think your best bet is to buy a single new brake and use the one with the spring loose for extra parts (and to learn how to take apart) if something happens again.

As for taking it off the ski and remounting in same holes, unless the person who mounted it was inexperienced / the skis are waterlogged, it isn't an issue at all, you don't even need to heli or steelwool or epoxy if you feel the screws bite well, make sure to always use an outdoor wood glue when mounting for sealing. Also make sure the screws you are remounting with don't have old glue on them.

I actually do have extra pivots that I can get parts from, which I was intending on doing. I'll try it and I guess if it tears out, I'm back in the same spot I am now, if it doesn't, great!

Oh that perfect then dude! I didn't mean to insinuate that you wouldnt have that, i just know that most people dont have spares laying around. Thats why i have a moving box of pivot parts. just take it all apart and glue in that extra plastic piece with super glue. I've changed that part before so i know its very doable. If you need any tips or help holler at me and I'll do my best to help! I still think its easiest for you to take it off the skis, thats what i would do if you came in with that ski to my shop and the core was still good.
