My epic gear

does anybody have any experience with my epic gear? i made a thread earlier about shipping skis or renting skis for a ski vacation. the vast majority of yall said ship my own gear with me. the problem with that though, is that I'm on the east coast and almost purely ski park, hence why I ski blends. the trip that I am planning is to go to whistler. I'm not sure how well blends would fair out there. after doing some research I cam across something called my epic gear. idk if this is already an industry staple and everybody already knows abt this, but basically its a 50$ membership where you can basically just demo brand new skis every day for 50$ a day. you can swap what skis ur riding whenever you want. i just want to know what your guys' experiences with it are. are the skis actually new. do you think its a scam?

Vail typically doesn't have much available as far as freestyle skis go. Maybe some Bentchet 100 or Black Ops 98, but that's about it. They generally buy whatever brand reps and Powder or Ski Mag buyers guides are hyping each season.
Twin tips would typically get thrashed by employees before they make any money...

I used to buy large quantities of skis for the Death Star.

$50 a day seems crazy expensive? Or is the intent that you're supposed to try multiple pairs of skis in one day?

I feel like every time I've demo'd skis its been free?

I'd call around to ski shops in that area and see which ones will allow you to demo skis. A lot of shops will probably let you demo for free or at least probably cheaper than $50 a day (at that point just buy another pair of skis). You are right tho, blends will not do well out at whistler, especially if you're looking to do something outside of park. Also, up to you, but don't get too caught up in getting twin tips if your focus of the trip is to do a lot of skiing outside of the park as well. Whistler has a nice park, but so do a lot of places on the east coast if you drive up north a good bit. There's so much mountain to explore at whistler in comparison to anywhere on the east coast, so I'd recommend you focus your attention there. Anyways, hope you have a good trip!

Dude the blends will be fine for whis. I don't see a point in going through all this extra effort.

Bring your own skis, it’s so worth it. Like you will have a significantly better time. AirTag those bad boys tho

my epic gear is brand new so limited feedback on their success or lack there of. i would say bring your blends and then if you get a pow day, demo a pair from RMU or something. probably cheaper that way.

most airlines count ski bag and separate boot bag as 1 of your 2 normal price checked bags. so i would just fly with those bad boys

My Epic gear was created just to attempt to extract more money per person. That's basically been their whole business model lately, they have to extract more money from the same or fewer number of customers as skier visits per year has been decreasing. That's not a sustainable growth plan though, they will eventually price themselves out of the realm of most people.

a lot of demos/rentals are a lot more expensive than 50 bucks a day, also I'm not really looking to be skiing purely park skis while I'm out there. I don't really want to spend my whole trip in the park.

How many days are you going for? Renting from shops can be pricey, if you just want to demo skis, there is a demo hut that is $20 a day but you can only ride a single pair for a max of two hours. The other option, again depending on how long you will be there for and how picky you are is to just buy a used pair and sell back to a used shop before you leave.

4 days. im not super picky about what skis I'm riding, but I also just don't want to over complicate things.

i would def just bring your blends. unless they are thrashed as fuck, should be pretty good for all around and then do 1 day on a demo if you get a pow day. demo bindings blow so having your setup will be nice. also, if the forecast looks like ots gonna dump the whole time your there, you can make a gametime decision and just bring your boots. its gonna be a rad time no matter what you do though!!

I was in a similar situation where I ski East Coast but brought my Blends out to Winter Park last year. If you don't mind sharpening them they'll do you well.

One thing to keep in mind with epic gear vs renting from a shop is my understanding is epic gear delivers and picks up the skis from you. So no need getting to a shop early in the morning or at the end of the day to drop off your demos. So if the price is close, having the skis brought to you is a plus in my book. Selection will vary though.

Every time I fly somewhere to ski I bring my Vishnus and Armada JJ's. Every time I end up using the Vishnus 90% of the time because they're more fun until I hit thigh deep powder. Blends will be fine. Just get a ski bag and fly with your skis.
