Replying to GoPro vs. Cannon T3 Rebel

Hey guys, to put it simply I want to try to film some “half decent” edits this. I sort of have 2 main options. I was wondering if any one has any input on how well GoPros film for close up shots/ follow cams and what not. My other option would be to use a older cannon t3 rebel (I know nothing about cameras). The downside of this would be the battery life (I would definitely have to buy some more batteries) and the camera doesn’t have a very good lense. If anyone has experience with either, I would appreciate any input.
