Hello, we the Montana Bandits are reaching out in search of votes for our video in the Trew to you video competition hosted by Trew outerwear. 10 Teams made a video for $15,000. We feel we have the best video, and we even got the link to prove it. We need your help to win this money so we can keep making ski movies. We've gotten better over the years, and its time to take this thing to the next level. Check out our channel to see old videos. We're in this thing because we fucking love skiing, and we want to bring down the corporate overlords in this industry by including comedy and the true culture of skiing on the front pages. If you support underground ski movies that are made by the boys for the boys (and girls) to laugh cry and get fired up for skiing, anytime, anywhere. I always thought it was in pretty poor taste to beg for votes in ski contests on this site, you don't think anybody else that submitted an edit is a ns member?

TBF they can make a post as well. We used to have contest sways all the time back in the day.



These style of contests always left a bad taste in my mouth though after we lost in bracket reel to blatant botting. I think it was like Purdue or someone fuckin random on a dry slope somehow got like 3k votes in 10 minutes right before votes closed. Like come on.





Anyways always loved seeing yalls stuff. You got my vote

It's better to win a contest on merit than to artificially boost votes by asking people. A coworker of mine constantly pushed us to vote for his photography in a contest, but wouldn't a genuine win feel more satisfying? Soliciting votes undermines the achievement and strips it of true pride.

Idk i think it’s a fair assumption that most contestants will try to get the word out one way or another

Agreed, though as a voter I’ll check out the competition and decide based on that. If you’re gonna beg for a vote you gotta be ready for me to vote against you if your vid isn’t the best. They had the best vid tho haha.

Also I also think winning on merit would feel better but my ass would be doing down bad shit for 15 grand

All of these "fan vote" style contests are just a popularity contest in the first place. Thinking that anyone cares enough about what Trew is doing to go check out all these videos and vote is insane. There's no way in hell you can have a winner on "merit" in this day and age when the thing is actively designed for people to go try to solicit votes from people. You really think that thousands of people are going to log on and arbitrarily judge these?

Don't hate the player hate the game here. If the contest was judged by a professional panel of judges then I'm sure it would be a satisfying win. But acting all sanctimonious like they're somehow being sacrilegious to ask people to vote for them in a public vote contest is ridiculous. Are you equally as butthurt about all the pros enouraging people to vote for them on their IG stories in the Bdog contest right now?

Honestly not to bring up bracket reel again buuuut


That was probably the best thing that they did right. They had a couple pro skiers chose which edit was better out of the matchups, and I believe whichever they chose got a 1.5x multiplier on their votes.


So still popularity, but it definitely mattered if you're edit was better too.

Whoa, you went deep there. I wasn’t trying to dissect the whole mechanics of these contests or call anyone out—I was just sharing a general thought about how winning on merit feels better. I honestly don’t even know much about the contests you're mentioning, so no need to take it so seriously.

Conors right. This contest is not a ski video contest as all. Its a who can get more people to Vote for your video. The Bandits lost to a group that in the last minute rallied an IG account with 2 million followers to promote their film. They got a shit ton of votes and came ahead in the last second. Anybody who believes these contests are won on merit is naive to the reality of our industry and these contests in general. The only way to win these contests is to hustle. We spent 6 days on MSU campus promoting the competition as well as countless instagram posts. In the end still came up short. After going through this experience I wish I had hustled harder. We thought it was a lock and took our foot off the gas peddle and it cost us 15K. If you're going to enter these competitions you have to run a hell of a campaign. Read the rules, and then take full advantage of every connection you have to spread the word, and don't stop until the voting window has closed. Most importantly, don't listen to the ankle biters on NS that think promoting yourself isn't a fair way to win these contests. What a load of crap.
