EvancantspinIf you live on the east coast and don’t plan on strictly using them for park don’t detune. To icy .
darthlobster603three swipes the same direction toe piece to heel piece is all you need. i may be wrong here but the S7 bases on the ARV line are sintered so you will need to detune a little but no need to go crazy. Anyone with extruded bases really doesnt need to detune at all out of the box.
Either way you dont need a 45 degree bevel in your edges to hit rails.
KilaTsunamiI hit that shit til its dull as a butter knife lol
darthlobster603i played around with it a bit a few seasons ago when i got a second pair of nomads and figured out the sweet spot for trying to do everything was what i said above. also i ski on the east coast so take that with a grain of ice.
VT_scratchthey'll detune themselves. just dont rip rails day 1 if you're worried about catching an edge.
KilaTsunamiJust run a gummy stone underfoot, takes 30 seconds. Detuning “natrually” puts your edges at risk if your grinding. Only takes one good shot to crack your edge so why risk it?
VT_scratchInteresting - I've never considered this. So dulling the edge underfoot where you'd grind, less harsh of an edge so less harsh of an impact when you smack something hard?
KilaTsunamiExactly. Features aren’t always as smooth as you’d think. If there’s a deep enough gouge or a nick in a rail and you slide a sharp edge across it, it’s likely catch it, and break your edge. If your edges are nice n smooth/dull, they’re more likely to just roll right over it.
A lot of ppl will detune just underfoot to keep some edge up in the tips and down in the tails. Personally, I like my park skis completely dull tip to tail. Try it out, if you hate it you can always re sharpen them and start over. Nothing to be afraid of.
