ISkiTheEastI’m planning on going to Ottawa next year for school and I am curious of what is close.
bertBertsonI'm usually at Edelwiess for the park, how has Fortune been?
I thought Edel park was pretty good last year considering the low tide. That big up-flat rail setup was amazing. Hoping this year we get better conditions and more time on the setup.
Weekendwarrior69Edelweiss been lacking for park. Its always the last to get built and early season park has pretty much just been ride-on boxes. Fortune is where its at
coronaThey must have lost the employees who cared. Throughout the 2010's Edelweiss's park was an order of magnitude better than Camp Fortune's. The jumps were always built to perfection and the lips were great, especially their large stepover type jump that made it feel like you didn't even leave the ground when you landed. Rails were always great with some creative options every year. Everything was always maintained. And the top to bottom run flowed super well with 3-4 jumps and 6-7 rails (depending on the setup) vs like 3-4 rails and 1-2 jumps at Fortune.
ZenyattaKickThere is a hill in Arnprior I’ve never been, but it’s like 20 minutes from downtown Ottawa.
TroyBallsackwhat the hell arnprior is way out in the boonies, and the closest hill i can think of is calabogie which is an hour from downtown.
calabogie is awesome if you dont like park, but has some of the coolest terrain in ottawa imo. theres a sheer rock cliff that you can get some stupid air off of.
Anyways, I feel like all parks near ottawa take a while to get good. Like February long.
Fortune is great cuz of how close it is, ~20 mins from dt, but is flat and takes FOREVER to get a good park. I had awesome days learning there but for sure a skill cap and the chairlift is like double slow.
I always had a blast at eidelweiss but have not been in a while, the park run easily dunks on camp fortunes just with length and height. just a bit more of a trek. Also takes a while to get a good park.
pakenham, vorlage, and cascade are generally worth skipping unless you get a good deal on tickets or get bored of other terrain.
DBLCarleton alum here,
the best thing you can do is to join the ski club at uOttawa or Carleton. It’s actually the same club and does trips to tremblant every Sunday with one or two coach busses, I’m sure prices have gone up but it was like $20 for the bus.
Tremblant offers a student pass and the club gets access to cheap day tickets (used to be $45) if you’re not going to bite the bullet for a pass. Not sure if CU still has it but we used to have an on campus park with a quad kink, dfd, couple of flat/down bars, a fatty pvc and a backflip booter.
I met some of my closest friends through the club and it’s a great community! Always time for a quick après at the p’tit Caribou before the rowdiest bus ride home; crowd surfing, drugs, sex and alcohol baby! (Usually a party bus and a quiet bus)
Fortune and Edel always had a pretty cheap night skiing pass, always a good time!
