New Laptop

Spilled coffee on my old MSI from 2016 and I fear it's not long for this world.
I'm hoping tech savvy people of NS have some suggestions since I've been out of the computer specs game for a while.
Looking for a laptop, preferably that I could find used.
I'll be using it for photo and video editing and a bit of graphic production.
I like mac mostly because of the metal case ( one of the hinges has been broken for a while on my current laptop) and am intrigued by the M2 chip.
However I'm looking for any suggestions at all.

Go cop a M1 or M2 Pro Macbook pro for $1000. You wont be disappointed.

If you’re okay with not using apple’s operating system, there are many more hardware options at different price points and performance levels on windows OS. I personally would suggest Lenovos for a more budget option or dell if you want something nice all around. Also would recommend investing in external storage (usb hard drive or whatever) for media production so you don’t have a shit ton of files always on your computer

Not married to the idea of the Apple OS. I’ve been using a pc for 8 years. And yeah I keep the bulk of my files on external devices, but space still fills up quickly!

IMO right now apple laptops are far better than any other laptop for video/photo editing. The new PCs with the ARM chips are definitely dope, but you can cop an m1 mbp for pretty cheap these days. At my professional editing job, I use a m1 max MBP and it crushes everything i throw at it.

What kind of Ram does that have? And have you upgraded it? I’m having trouble finding anything used with more than 8GB RAM. Granted I live in one of the worst places to find anything good used.

Most new laptops (pc and mac) you can not add ram, its soldered to the MoBo.
