VTshredder69I was actually angry at the last regime doing nothing at all about pretty much everything.
VTshredder69This thread sounds like a bunch of people angry that the government is actually doing shit.
ParkingLotPissI know people on the left like to throw the word "fascist/fascism" around, and a lot of the time inaccurately — but that being said:
Mexican and Latino people who are in the U.S. legally are being abducted from their families, detained, and deported.
Without a doubt, that is fascist.
Republican politicians have people on the right so worried about Mexicans and trans people, they won’t even look at what’s happening around them. This shit makes me physically sick to my stomach.
People who voted for Trump should be ashamed. This is on you.
LonelyAs of now
China:125%
EU:25% on steel aluminum and cars. 20% overall
Canada:10-25% depending on what
Rest of World:10%
This is current rate including the 90day pause
SlushSeasonI'm pretty happy with that. We might need to toss in some more high numbers for Chinese puppet states, but otherwise that's pretty reasonable.
10% globally makes sense. That way countries with a legitimate competitive advantage can still get ahead, but companies won't be so eager to send everything abroad to save 3% (then inevitably have their tech stolen 3 years later).
Hopefully we can work something better out with the EU, Can, and all the delayed others

TOAST.I'm fine putting tariffs on china because intellectual property theft issued is pretty insane, but that's about it as far as broad tariffs go. Use tariffs to try to bring select industries to the US not fuck our allies over.
JuviticusTell me you have disposable income without telling me you have disposable income
SlushSeasonYeah, I live below my means and already pay more for NA/EU made goods over Chinese products when it's reasonable to do so. What do you actually need that's made in China? I'm gonna guess not much.
Sure, it's less convenient to buy things from other countries, but you're usually getting a better product that will cost you less long-term
theabortionatorYeah with the ecomony getting worse, min wage staying the same, price going up why the hell wouldn't anybody turn to a place they can buy a better quality localy sourced item for 5 times the price.
People are hella lazy

Lonely@SlushSeason do you want to switch to a line manufacturing job?

HypeBeastWorking in a bucket plant a couple summers reminded me of why I was in college at the time. That wasn't even the worst of those types of line jobs but my god that shit sucked.
ParkingLotPissWhat a stupid thing to say. You would only ever say this if you have a subpar ability to think critically.
Doing shit just for the sake of not doing nothing is worse than doing nothing.
Doing shit is only good if it doesn’t make other shit worse.
I swear your brain stopped developing at the age of 9.
LonelyNot even asking to be an asshole, I’m always just curious to ask the people who seem to want China type or 1960s type manufacturing back here.
The answer I’ve consistently gotten is “Well I don’t want to do it, and I don’t want people I’m close with to have to do it either, but someone in America should do it regardless”
Reminds of growing up in farmland and listening to people talk about how Mexicans and illegals are stealing our ag jobs. Yet it was nearly impossible to find any average white working or middle class American that was willing to deal with the fun of working a dairy farm, or sitting in an asparagus picker for 12 hours a day on minimum wage. There’s a reason why all the kids were pushed to go to college.
I think people like to romanticize it but don’t know the reality of what they are romanticizing, and of course, wouldn’t do it themselves.
Lenny-I dont think anyone wants intelligent people working the line in a factory. If you have other options you will probably take it. If you are poor without even a GED (around 10% of Americans) you may take a factory job. No one aspires to a factory job or 7/11 or McDonalds but when they're your only options you might be thankful you have options. If you go around ski chalets and ask people if they want to work in a factory you will get a different answer than if you went around Detroit.
No I wouldnt stop grooming snow or whatever to go work a factory. However if I had not graduated high school and had a criminal record and my only options were factory or McDonalds, I may take to the factory. Especially if I was helping build something I was proud of instead of just a cheap hamburger. I could farm asparagus for 12 hours and feel more proud than working a fast food chain or uber job for 12 hours. I imagine I go to the grocery store see someone with my asparagus in their cart and it feel good.
I don't think we need to bring back every manufacturing job from China and I dont think the damage Vishnu is worth any of it. However it would be nice if some people had more options. Also its worth pointing out that not every job in a factory is a low skill, low paying job.
Lonely@SlushSeason do you want to switch to a line manufacturing job?
SlushSeasonWhat you guys aren't seeming to get about these tariffs (and what trump tries to hide) is that they're austerity measures. Yes, they will make many things more expensive and you won't be able to consume as much. But that's exactly the point. It's necessary discomfort for some years in order to reverse course and save us in the long run.
The past 30 years of ballooning national debt and steady reduction in manufacturing capability needs to be stopped. And there's literally no way to do that which doesn't come with some economic shock.

JuviticusSo what's the point?
eheathi cant believe you're actually trying to pedal trumps bullshit.
They crashed the market so billionaires could dump and buy at the bottom. Then sell again at the top. Everything is a distraction from something else. Trump does not care about the US enonomy, there is no "plan" please open your eyes dude.
SlushSeasonHow the fuck am i peddling trump's bullshit, when he won't even admit that these are austerity measures? It goes against his brand image of luxury and bull markets so he instead claims that this will fix everything instantly.
No, i know that many of trump's claims about how this will work are false. But i also know that austerity measures like trade barriers with countries like China are a necessary hardship to turn things around, if only we stick with them.

eheathYou're pedalling his bullshit and you don't even realize it, jesus.
VTshredder69sounds sorta like covid.

VTshredder69he's actually explaining economics. Trump just lives in your head.
VTshredder69Larger transfer of wealth in the history of the world? You a troglodyte or something?
eheathcrashing the market to pump money into the pockets of billionares is not economics.
JuviticusJesus triggered much? Are you saying that was insider trading at a global level? Because that's what we're taking about here, not "wealth transfer"
VTshredder69Well for us non billionaires it's made us some money too. Just sounds like you have no idea what you're doing.

JuviticusDidn't you say you were down like 25k this month?
VTshredder69401K & Play market money don't correlate.
I got masters to watch. Hit the cave painting troglodyte.
